Meet Kynesia Bishop

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Kynesia Bishop. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Kynesia , thank you so much for joining us today. Let’s jump right into something we’re really interested in hearing about from you – being the only one in the room. So many of us find ourselves as the only woman in the room, the only immigrant or the only artist in the room, etc. Can you talk to us about how you have learned to be effective and successful in situations where you are the only one in the room like you?

The journey of being seen and understood in spaces where I am the only woman or person of color has been a profound and transformative experience. It has required a great deal of self-reflection and soul searching, as well as drawing upon the lessons taught to me by my parents. One fundamental lesson they instilled in me was the importance of giving everyone a chance, as you never know who you will meet and what they may bring to your life.

As I navigated these spaces, I realized the significance of feeling empowered to speak up and address instances where something someone said felt inappropriate or perpetuated harmful stereotypes. It took courage to call out microaggressions, those subtle and often unintentional acts.

When encountering such situations, I found it valuable to not only point out the problematic nature of the comment or action but also to explain why it is harmful. By doing so, I aimed to foster understanding and empathy, helping others recognize the impact of their words and actions. This approach allowed for meaningful dialogue and an opportunity for growth, both for myself and those around me.

In the process, I discovered the power of my voice and the importance of advocating for myself and others. I realized that by speaking up, I not only defended my own dignity but also contributed to creating a more inclusive and equitable environment for everyone. It is a continuous learning process.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?

Throughout my career journey, I have had the opportunity to explore various paths, each centered around my passion for working with people. It all began in mental health, where I dedicated my efforts to supporting individuals in their well-being. As time went on, I transitioned into the field of education, leveraging my background to make a difference in the lives of students.

Building upon my education experience, I found myself drawn to learning and development within the healthcare industry. In this role, I had the privilege of helping healthcare professionals enhance their skills and knowledge, ultimately improving patient care. It was during this time that I discovered my affinity for technology and its potential to drive positive change.

Now, as an account manager in technology software sales, I have merged my passion for working with people and my love for technology. This role allows me to connect with clients, understand their needs, and provide them with innovative solutions that empower their businesses.

In addition to my career in technology, I am also an entrepreneur. I am the proud owner of Fashiongasms Boutique, LLC, an online women’s clothing store. Through this venture, I am able to combine my passion for fashion with the joy of providing women with trendy clothing options.

Furthermore, I established A Seat Creator, LLC, a consulting agency that focuses on empowering black women to seek leadership positions. Through this agency, I strive to create a supportive and inclusive environment where black women can thrive and excel in their professional journeys.

As I navigate the world of entrepreneurship, I continue to learn and grow, both personally and professionally. Each experience has taught me valuable lessons about myself and the limitless possibilities that come with following one’s passions. I am grateful for the diverse paths I have taken and the opportunities they have afforded me to make a positive impact on the lives of others.

I have released my first book, Embracing Soft Girl magic: A guide how to level up and embrace the Soft Girl Era as a magical Black woman. This book a resource to support women on their journey to live a softer lifestyle.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

The three qualities that were most impactful in my journey were continuous learning, being open to trying new things and trust the process. Continuous learning is crucial as it allows you to expand your knowledge, develop new skills, and stay adaptable in a rapidly changing world. Being open to trying new things opens doors to exciting opportunities and allows for personal growth and discovery. Trusting the process is essential because it encourages perseverance and resilience, even in the face of challenges or setbacks. Together, these three qualities formed a powerful foundation for personal and professional development, enabling me to navigate my journey with confidence and curiosity.

The advice I would to anyone starting their journey is to trust the process. You will see the end result of your hard work. I have the patience to understand that life is a journey and we arrive at our destination at different times.

One of our goals is to help like-minded folks with similar goals connect and so before we go we want to ask if you are looking to partner or collab with others – and if so, what would make the ideal collaborator or partner?

I am open to collaborating with others. I would love to collaborate with people who are empowerment coaches or work in DEIB. I would also love to collaborate with other women entrepreneurs. If interested in collaborating, please reach out to me at drbishop@aseatcreator.com.
