Meet Kynesia Bishop

We recently connected with Kynesia Bishop and have shared our conversation below.

Kynesia, we’re so excited for our community to get to know you and learn from your journey and the wisdom you’ve acquired over time. Let’s kick things off with a discussion on self-confidence and self-esteem. How did you develop yours?

The development of my confidence and self-esteem has been a gradual process, influenced by the different phases of my life. A significant factor in this growth has been the encouragement and support I received from my family. My mother, in particular, played a pivotal role by instilling in me a sense of pride in myself and emphasizing that my inherent beauty is unique and should be celebrated. Similarly, my father and uncle consistently express their admiration for my physical appearance and intelligence, reinforcing a positive perception of myself. Prior to experiencing this, I had not fully recognized the significance of having individuals who impart positivity into one’s life. Now, whenever I find myself doubting my abilities, I draw strength from the way my family perceives me. Their uplifting words serve as a powerful motivation for me to pursue my goals without succumbing to fear or self-doubt.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?

In the past year, I faced significant challenges that tested my emotional resilience. Firstly, I experienced a deep sense of grief and loss when my beloved pet, who had been a loyal companion for 14 years, passed away. This loss took a toll on my mental and emotional well-being, making it difficult for me to navigate through other aspects of my life.

Simultaneously, I encountered professional setbacks that took a toll on my self-confidence. I found myself subjected to severe bias and discrimination, which added to the already existing mental strain I was experiencing. It was a disheartening and overwhelming period, and I felt lost, unsure of how to move forward.

During this time, I came across various posts and articles highlighting the unique challenges faced by Black women in professional settings. Inspired by these narratives and motivated to make a difference, I decided to take action. I created an Instagram page dedicated to empowering women of color, providing them with a platform to share their stories, struggles, and successes. This endeavor allowed me to connect with a community of like-minded individuals and provided a sense of purpose and direction.

Driven by the desire to do more and make a lasting impact, I took the courageous step of establishing A Seat Creator LLC. This consulting agency focuses on empowering and equipping women of color with the necessary tools and resources to pursue higher positions in their respective fields. Through this venture, I have had the privilege of witnessing remarkable transformations in the lives of these women. As I empower others, I have also experienced personal and professional growth myself.

Recently, I released a guidebook titled “Embracing Soft Girl Magic: A Guide on How to Level Up and Embrace the Soft Girl Era as a Magical Black Woman.” This book serves as a valuable resource for Black women, providing guidance and support to stay focused and consistent in pursuing their goals. It aims to celebrate and harness the unique strengths and qualities of Black women, empowering them to embrace their individuality and achieve their aspirations.

Overall, this journey of empowering women of color has been nothing short of incredible. It has allowed me to channel my own experiences and challenges into a meaningful purpose, creating a positive impact in the lives of others while simultaneously fostering personal growth and resilience.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?

The importance of kindness, compassion, and resilience cannot be overstated in my life’s personal and professional spheres. These qualities define my character and play a crucial role in helping me stay grounded. we are
Kindness involves showing empathy, offering support, respecting others, and creating positive connections and relationships.

Conversely, compassion requires understanding others’ struggles and taking action to alleviate their pain, fostering unity and inclusivity.

Resilience, the ability to bounce back from challenges, enables us to face adversity with courage and grow stronger through setbacks.

Together, these qualities empower me to continue to create a more compassionate and supportive space both personally and professionally, by fostering collaboration, teamwork, and positivity in all aspects of life.

What’s been one of your main areas of growth this year?

In the past 12 months, my biggest area of growth and improvement has been in navigating and surviving bias. Turning difficult situations into something positive has also been a significant area of growth for me. I have learned to approach challenging circumstances with resilience and a problem-solving mindset. Rather than dwelling on the negative aspects, I focus on finding opportunities for growth and learning. By reframing difficult situations as opportunities for personal and professional development, I have been able to cultivate a more positive outlook and find creative solutions.

Furthermore, I have developed the ability to empathize and understand the emotions of other women of color who may be facing challenging situations. By providing compassionate and supportive responses, I aim to offer comfort and guidance during difficult times. I strive to be a source of positivity and encouragement, helping women of color navigate through adversity and find strength within themselves.
