Meet Kyrstin Stark

We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Kyrstin Stark. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Kyrstin below.

Kyrstin, thanks for taking the time to share your thoughts with us today. We’re excited to dive into your story and your work, but first let’s start with a broader topic that might be stopping many of our readers from pursuing their dreams – haters, nay-sayers, etc. How have you managed to persist despite haters and nay-sayers that inevitably follow folks who are doing something unique, special or off the beaten path?

Someone is always going to have somthing to say, good or bad. I think about all the hard days I have had, that I have already done harder things & whatever anyone thinks they know about me they don’t know what I really have over come.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?

Cosmetoloigist, hairstylist, hair artist.
As someone in the profession of “painting hair” You get told all the time. “You just paint hair right ?” Or “it’s just hair”. It’s so much more then that ! When I was a 17 year old new mom I wanted a job that would be flexible with a child’s schedule. My dad told me ” Sis you are always doing your sister , friends, your hair , why not do that?”
It was a long hard road to get to where I am. I never imagined the life I would have now because of the relationships I have built by doing my “job”, that 17 yeat old girl would be so proud that we made it.
The people who sit in my chair have made such an incredible impact on my life. We share things that are so personal I have heard ” I haven’t even told my partner this ” many times. I have been through breakups , weddings, babies , losses, with these people. We have grown up together. I am blessed to be a safe place for people to relax, recharge and feel , look beautiful while doing it.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

Listen & ask questions.
People will tell you how or what they want , not only in words but how they touch their hair, repeat back to them what you heard, make sure everyone is on the same page.

Continuing education. You want to be a the best at hair cutting watch videos on online, find a class. Want to be a vivid specialist there are tons of YouTube, tiktok videos.

Don’t compare yourself. I have been doing hair for 19 years. The second I stopped thinking everyone was better then me & I started doing what I wanted to do more of the way i wanted to , I grew so much confidence.

What do you do when you feel overwhelmed? Any advice or strategies?

When it all gets to be to much , the haters, the imposter syndrome, life,
i like to disconnect. Go outside , go to the mountains, read a book that is fun , snuggle my dog kids or girlfriend.
