Meet L G Boyle

We were lucky to catch up with L G Boyle recently and have shared our conversation below.

Hi L G , appreciate you sitting with us today to share your wisdom with our readers. So, let’s start with resilience – where do you get your resilience from?

My resilience comes from my parents and their examples but also from life’s events, which have proven to be incredible teaching moments. With each setback I’ve learned there is a comeback. It may take a while but it’s coming, just wait for it.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?

I am an author, singer, songwriter, music producer, and actress. My life has taken several meandering turns, looping back and forth, and crossing over the same lines, to get me to this point. But it began with singing.

Factually, singing was all I did for many years because I thought it was all I could do! Now, I’m incredulous at the thought. I also wrote poetry, as children like to do, just little rhymes. I was good at writing but I never considered where any of that could lead, other than a good job.

Then came adulthood, divorce, and midlife, followed by an empty nest. I had the chance to reinvent myself. My grandmother lived to be 98 years old – and my mother recently passed at the same age – what if I did the same? Could my life be merely half over? If that were the case, I was determined to live my remaining years to the fullest.

It’s been said that as we grow older we find true joy in the things we loved from our childhood. For me that was performing. I grew up watching Shirley Temple and other child stars. I dreamed of being on Fame, the TV show. I had visions of me performing before great crowds. I didn’t even know how any of that would happen because, for a while, I was very shy. Still, I hoped.

Then one day, a friend asked if I would write inspirational articles for her blog. I said yes, stumbling upon the word to unlock my forthcoming adventures. Blogging led to writing my first book, Touched, a Christian fantasy adventure. There are now four novels in my Chosen Chronicles series.

Before my series was complete, I was approached by a classmate for help writing his book. I never found the time and sadly, he passed during COVID without his autobiography ever being realized. As it turned out, he was one of the founders of House music and a legendary DJ. I have regretted not writing his story ever since.

Shortly thereafter, another classmate asked if I would be a music consultant for her short film, Seasoned. The movie quickly became Seasoned the series, which now streams on Tubi. I’m a vocal coach, singer/songwriter, and actress on the show. Yes seemed to be the way to go.

After releasing several songs, I was offered the opportunity to sing on an album for a well known group in Rwanda. This led to a trip to Africa for a whirlwind media blitz and a music video, making me an international artist. I also taught a master class at Rwanda’s school of music!

Two more songs were produced while there – by alumni of that school – the last of which, Unconditional Love, was released a few weeks ago. To date, I have seven releases and two music videos with more, hopefully, to come.

Three of my songs are also included on the TV series which has garnered nearly TWO MILLION views! Not too shabby for someone who is in the second half of her life. These were the dreams of a young woman but they are only now coming true. I want to encourage everyone who ever had a dream: it’s not too late! I’m living proof! Delayed doesn’t mean denied. I believe our best years may still be ahead of us.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

The lyrics to a song from The Wiz came to me today:

Believe you can go home. Believe you can float on air. And know from the moment you try, if you believe, then you’ll be there. (Glinda, the Good Witch)

Home is who you are at your core. From the beginning I was a singer and a writer, with aspirations to be an actress. I remember standing atop a table, singing and dancing for my brother and his friends as a little girl. I remember receiving accolades as a poet – I must’ve won a competition. Somehow, somewhere along the way, I lost my confidence. But I’m learning to believe in myself, again. I hope that my story will encourage you, to find your way home, too.

To quote Mufasa from Disney’s, The Lion King: REMEMBER WHO YOU ARE.

Okay, so before we go we always love to ask if you are looking for folks to partner or collaborate with?

As a music artist, I’m finding a great deal of satisfaction in exploring different genres. Right now I have two songs that I’d love to release IF I can find the right collaborator. If you’re into country music, pop/rock, or House music, I’m your girl! Check out my music catalog on YouTube, Spotify, iTunes or Amazon to find out if we’re a match and let’s connect!
