Meet La Toya Jones

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to La Toya Jones. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

LA TOYA, appreciate you making time for us and sharing your wisdom with the community. So many of us go through similar pain points throughout our journeys and so hearing about how others overcame obstacles can be helpful. One of those struggles is keeping creativity alive despite all the stresses, challenges and problems we might be dealing with. How do you keep your creativity alive?

I find my biggest inspiration in nature. I’m constantly amazed by the little details, like the intricate pattern on a dragonfly’s wing or how sunlight dances on a seashell. There’s so much beauty in the natural world, and it sparks ideas that I might never think of on my own.

In my art, I really try to capture that beauty and uniqueness. I want each piece to reflect the depth of nature and share that sense of wonder with others. It’s my way of keeping that magic alive in everything I create, and I hope it inspires people to see the world around them in a new light.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?

i am a CREATIVE! I have always had a love for art specifically color and texture. Art has been a constant in my life, in school it was always my favorite subject. And I have always used it throughout my life as a means of expression and relaxation. I have won numerous awards and recognition for my artistic works and countless design collaborations. My work has been featured with Mauritshuis Museum, Ritz Carlton, Sotheby’s NYC, MvVo Art, Luxe Interiors + design, Modern Luxury Interiors and Traditional Home to name a few.

When I discovered mixed media, it felt like a whole new world opened up. I love the freedom it gives me to layer different materials, textures, and colors, creating pieces that feel alive and full of depth. I try to make sure each piece tells its own story by blending influences and emotions in a way that feels personal and meaningful. I put my heart into every artwork, hoping it connects with others on an emotional level.

Gemstones and precious metals are very significant in my work as well. Often if you look closely, gemstones by themselves contain art within. They hold intricate and beautiful patterns that have developed over time. In a way I look at this as God’s artwork. I see this process as a reflection of our lives, where every intention and imperfection comes together to make something beautiful. Just like my art, life is about embracing each layer and celebrating our unique journeys.

My most recent exhibition I highlighted my latest collection, “Royal People” which is a collection that I’ve been working on literally and figuratively for many years. In this collection, what is unique is that it combines my passion of photography and painting. I encourage your readers to check out my website www.LaToyaJones.com A few popular pieces have been Stella, Edra, Sargon and Citadel. These all are currently available and would make great additions to any space or collection.

Upcoming exhibitions will be some time early fall. I would encourage readers to follow me on Instagram at @ArtistLaToyaJones for the latest dates and newest projects.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?

The advice I would like to leave with those early in their artistic journey is this. It is very important to know as an Artist you need more than just talent- you need to think like an entrepreneur. Three things that helped me stand out and grow was my originality, my persistence, and my strategic planning.

It’s not just about making art; it’s about making art that feels fresh and different. You have to find your own style, something that makes people stop and say, “Wow, I’ve never seen that before.” Whether it’s the colors you use, the way you design, or the emotions your work brings out, your art should have something special that makes it you.

You must be persistent, success doesn’t happen overnight. Sometimes people won’t understand your art, sometimes you won’t sell as much as you hoped, and sometimes you’ll doubt yourself. But every artist who made it big kept going, learning, and improving. The key is to stay focused, believe in your work, and not let setbacks stop you.

Finding your own art style and being persistent is wonderful. However, knowing how to sell your works and share it is just as important. You have to know how to market yourself, price your work, and connect with the right people. It’s truly running a business—you wouldn’t just make the best cupcakes and hope people magically find them, right? You’d tell people about them, make them look appealing, and sell them in the right places. The same goes for art!

At the end of the day, being an entrepreneur artist means balancing creativity with strategy. Never stop creating, never stop learning, and never stop finding smart ways to share your work. Most importantly have fun in the process.

Okay, so before we go, is there anyone you’d like to shoutout for the role they’ve played in helping you develop the essential skills or overcome challenges along the way?

That’s a great question! For me, it’s a combination of many sources—mentors who have shared their wisdom, innovators who have set new standards, and, most importantly, the people I engage with daily. Every conversation, challenge, and collaboration contributes to growth.

However, if I had to pick one person who has helped me the most, it would definitely be my husband, Michael. We’ve been married for 30 years, through it all, he’s been right there—whether it’s offering a shoulder to lean on during tough days, applauding at celebrations or sharing his valuable business strategies. He’s not just one of the smartest and most skilled businessman I know; he’s also kind, patient, and a wonderful dad to our three boys. His wisdom and support have played a huge role in my journey.

My final thought, if you have a vision you want to pursue, GO FOR IT. Your dreams do not have an expiration date. Keep believing in yourself, and know that I am cheering for your success. You are a winner!
