We were lucky to catch up with Lacarey Dickerson recently and have shared our conversation below.
LaCarey, we’re thrilled to have you on our platform and we think there is so much folks can learn from you and your story. Something that matters deeply to us is living a life and leading a career filled with purpose and so let’s start by chatting about how you found your purpose.
About eight years ago, I was working two jobs from dawn until dusk. I had to be at my first job, which was at the gym, by 5 AM, where I worked until about 1:30 PM. My second job was as a cook in a kitchen, and I didn’t finish that job until 11 PM. Some weeks, I worked both jobs anywhere from 5 to 7 days. At that time, I had my own place and two cars, but I was simply waking up and going to work with no real sense of purpose. I was working to pay bills and barely had enough time to enjoy the fruits of my labor. Although I didn’t need both jobs, I continued to work them because my employers needed the help—or at least I thought they did. I began posting videos on YouTube and quickly realized how much my content helped people. I often received feedback that my ability to break things down made the content easier to digest. I started finding more fulfillment in posting online and developing a community that needed guidance and wanted to grow in all aspects of life. Eventually, I faced a dilemma: I wanted to dedicate more time to my passion and help my community, but my work schedule was holding me back. After months of trying to find a solution, I approached both of my employers to ask if I could work certain days and hours of the week. One employer granted my request, but the other did not. Over the years, I had accumulated a lot of overtime from my kitchen job. Before making my decision, I took a two-week vacation and traveled to Georgia and then Miami. While in Miami, I spent hours in a room reflecting and told myself I wouldn’t leave until I made a decision about my future. After extensive deliberation, I decided to fully commit to pursuing my passion for YouTube. However, I still had one issue: I wasn’t quite sure how to tell stories through video. I started researching different content creators and came across Casey Neistat, whom I consider one of the greatest vloggers and storytellers. I gravitated toward Casey because he didn’t attend school for his craft; he simply picked up a camera one day and pursued his passion relentlessly. Although I’m not where I want to be yet, I am actively working on building the foundation that will carry me forward. I launched about five different YouTube channels across various niches to test my knowledge of growing an audience. Within less than a year, I succeeded in reaching 1,000 subscribers on each channel. I was able to replicate my basic knowledge of audience growth, and during this process, I’ve helped hundreds, if not thousands, of people. I’ve reviewed thousands of products for different companies and assisted creators with hundreds of thousands of subscribers. I’ve even helped businesses and schools that once had few clients or few students reach a point where their parking lots are packed and classrooms are full. Now, I wake up every day eager to learn more and help as many people as I can along this journey. This sense of purpose continues each day to inspire me more and more in every way.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
I am active on social media, focusing on solving tough problems in a simple way through strategic planning, hard work, and consistency. My goal is to help people like me navigate complicated issues and achieve their goals. The most exciting part of my work is witnessing others achieve the results they desire and realizing that the process isn’t as difficult or complex as they initially thought. I often see myself in the people I encounter, and helping them feels like a mutual exchange. It’s incredibly rewarding to see how much impact my content, words, and videos have on others. Technology is exciting because it continually simplifies our lives as it advances. I believe that as our understanding of technology grows, it can make our lives easier, just as it has for me. One thing I truly appreciate about learning and growing through social media and YouTube is the infinite amount of knowledge available. Accessing this knowledge online is incredibly easy, offering no limits to how educated one can become. You can connect with individuals who have decades of experience in their fields and obtain valuable insights in mere minutes, rather than spending years in a classroom. My brand, knowledge, and platform will continue to grow, and I am always looking for opportunities to help others enhance what they already have.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that have been most impactful in my journey are communication skills, strategic thinking, and a consumer-oriented approach.
First, my communication skills allow me to listen attentively, identify problems, and help resolve any issues the team may be facing. I strive to communicate effectively, ensuring that everyone feels heard and we can collaboratively develop a plan to address the root of the problem.
Second, I excel at strategic thinking under pressure. I remain calm and relaxed, which enables me to create long-term plans that help us make more informed decisions based on thorough analysis.
Lastly, I find it essential to approach most matters from the perspective of an average consumer. This mindset helps me anticipate and address issues before they arise. Since most people are average consumers, it’s crucial to provide for their needs in a business setting. By covering these foundational bases, we set ourselves up for success by prioritizing what matters to the majority.

Okay, so before we go we always love to ask if you are looking for folks to partner or collaborate with?
I am eager to collaborate with free thinkers and individuals who have a genuine passion for their pursuits and aspirations. I am particularly interested in partnering with companies that offer products or services aimed at improving people’s lives. I am looking for those who are committed to personal and professional growth and are ready to invest the time and effort needed to achieve their goals.
