Meet Lacey Taylor

We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Lacey Taylor. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Lacey below.

Lacey , we’re thrilled to have you sharing your thoughts and lessons with our community. So, for folks who are at a stage in their life or career where they are trying to be more resilient, can you share where you get your resilience from?

Great question. I’ve been told that I’m extremely resilient. I believe I got my resilience from my inability to quit. I always told myself that no matter how many times I fail, I’ll never give up. I’m proud of myself for staying true to never giving up. One thing I admire about myself is how I pick myself back up.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?

I’m extremely excited and passionate about My Natures House Bed & Breakfast Inc. It’s a non-profit carbon footprint reduction and wellness glamping resort unlike any other, and I’m gleeful to be able to spread awareness about the good work we’re doing, reconnecting humanity back to nature. Being a disabled retired Army Veteran, I was looking for ways to heal and grow without being overstimulated and triggered. One day my husband and I decided to become homesteaders. Our passion for being good stewards of nature led to us sharing our journey on YouTube, to now having a non-profit that aids in reconnecting humanity to nature, allowing our guests to experience the joy and healing properties that mother nature has provided us.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?

The three most important qualities that have helped me to get to where I am today are: not accepting defeat, mindfulness, and self-care. These three things not only help me to live my best life but also help me to get my needs met and to help advocate for people who would otherwise not know what to say or know where to start. Navigating mental illness can be confusing, especially if you’re unfamiliar with treatment options. Sadly, the biggest pain point for me and my recovery from my visible and invisible wounds sustained in Active Duty Army was the lack of treatment options. Not once has the VA ever offered nature therapy. It seemed like the only options for recovery were meds and talk therapy. While there is nothing wrong with these healing modalities, nothing helps me more than being in nature, putting my hands in the soil, and sweating the day’s problems away. Don’t discount the power of nature.

One of our goals is to help like-minded folks with similar goals connect and so before we go we want to ask if you are looking to partner or collab with others – and if so, what would make the ideal collaborator or partner?

If you’re in the nature space, or know someone in the nature space, I humbly ask that you reach out. Bringing awareness to the effects that nature has on mental health is imperative. Especially for the black, brown, and veteran communities. If you’d like to book a stay or become an ambassador for My Natures House B&B Inc. Please visit our website or visit our Facebook page.
