Meet Laia O.

We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Laia O.. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Laia below.

Alright, so we’re so thrilled to have Laia with us today – welcome and maybe we can jump right into it with a question about one of your qualities that we most admire. How did you develop your work ethic? Where do you think you get it from?
I get my work ethic from my mother and grandma. They both worked diligently to create an amazing childhood for me. Being raised by two strong & hard working women influenced me to start working at 17. At 18 – I started my first business. Although it didn’t go as planned, my mom encouraged me to keep going and chase my dreams. Years later I was able to create Castle Artistry & now it’s been 3 successful years of owing this business. I wouldn’t have been able to create it without the impact of my mom and grandma.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
My name is Laia and I am a licensed esthetician. I am the owner of Castle Artistry; where I offer makeup, skincare and wax services. As an esthetician who specializes in skin of color facial treatments, I believe my expertise allows me to address the specific needs and concerns of diverse skin tones. My approach focuses on understanding the nuances of melanin-rich skin and tailoring treatments to enhance its natural beauty while addressing any specific challenges. I stay up-to-date with the latest research and techniques to ensure my clients receive the most effective and safe treatments. By offering personalized care and creating a comfortable environment, I aim to empower individuals to embrace their skin’s uniqueness and achieve optimal skin health and radiance.

Castle Artistry is open 7 days a week to service all of your skincare needs.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Continuous learning: The field of esthetics is constantly evolving. Unfortunately , in the state of Florida , the hours required for licensure is quite low compared to the rest of the country. It was important for me to seek out additional training to further improve my skills. Attending workshops, seminars and classes with experienced professionals is something I highly recommend.
Communication: I believe it’s important to have open dialogue with my clients and I think this has allowed me to retain long term clients. Empathy and honesty are how I lead most conversations.
Networking: In every business it’s important to network but I think it’s vital for those in the beauty industry. I think there is an opportunity to learn from any and every one. Networking has provided me with invaluable support and guidance and opportunity to grow.

What do you do when you feel overwhelmed? Any advice or strategies?
When I start to become overwhelmed , I try to take a step back from what is causing me stress. I practice self care by going out for a walk with my dogs, reading a book or watching a good action packed show/movie.
I seek support from my family and friends. Surrounding myself around positivity always make me feel a lot better.
Journaling is another strategy that has been beneficial to me.
