Hi Laila, we’re so appreciative of you taking the time to share your nuggets of wisdom with our community. One of the topics we think is most important for folks looking to level up their lives is building up their self-confidence and self-esteem. Can you share how you developed your confidence?

Embracing my facial features has been a transformative journey in developing my confidence with makeup. Instead of using makeup to mask perceived imperfections, I’ve learned to accentuate my natural beauty, highlighting what makes me unique. This mindset shift has not only boosted my self-esteem but has also influenced my approach to working with clients. I now focus on enhancing their natural features, celebrating their individuality, and empowering them to feel confident and beautiful in their own skin. By prioritizing authenticity and self-acceptance, I’ve created a more positive and uplifting makeup experience for everyone I work with.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?

At Blk Pearl Beauty, our mission is to accentuate the beauty of Black and POC women in an elegant and unique way. We believe in celebrating the rich diversity and natural radiance of our clients, using makeup to highlight their individual features with sophistication and style. Our approach is rooted in the understanding that beauty is multifaceted and personal, and we strive to provide a luxurious, personalized experience that empowers every woman to feel confident and beautiful in her own skin. Our lead artist Laila B. offers an array of makeup services from natural makeup to editorial and every style in between.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

Throughout my journey as a makeup artist, I’ve learned that the three most important skills to master are time management, cleanliness, and passion. Time management is crucial for balancing multiple clients and ensuring that each session runs smoothly. Cleanliness is essential for maintaining a professional and hygienic environment, which is vital for client safety and satisfaction. Passion drives creativity and continuous improvement, keeping the work fresh and inspired. For those just starting their journey, improving these skills can begin with practicing efficient scheduling techniques, maintaining a clean and organized workspace, and staying deeply connected to their love for makeup by constantly learning and experimenting with new techniques.

I’m always on the lookout for collaboration opportunities, especially for special projects like photoshoots, fashion showcases/runways, and on-set work.
