Meet Lailo Lema

We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Lailo Lema. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Lailo below.

Lailo, appreciate you making time for us and sharing your wisdom with the community. So many of us go through similar pain points throughout our journeys and so hearing about how others overcame obstacles can be helpful. One of those struggles is keeping creativity alive despite all the stresses, challenges and problems we might be dealing with. How do you keep your creativity alive?

Oftentimes creativity strikes in the surge of a moment. I think that the most impactful way to get my creativity flowing is to live life to the fullest as best I can. Much of my inspiration has come from my own experiences in life. My storytelling has been enriched because of the lovely people I meet and new adventures I have. I have also been inspired by my own internal world and deepest desires and pains, which are the heart of the stories I create. Everyday, I set aside time to let my mind wonder and work on whatever create projects my heart desires. Listening to music and setting the tone with beautiful scenery also sets the mood.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?

I am an author, artist, and creator known for my dark ethereal storytelling. I focus in on blurring the lines between desire and dread. What’s most exciting about what I do is engaging fans in the creative process the entire way through. I love to create beautiful graphics for social media and get feedback from readers about what kind of stories they would like to read next. Everything else that inspires me, music and displays are an extension of the vibe I look to share. I am excited to share a new dark romance story titled, Sick Punt. It will be a mesh of the gothic fairytales we loved as kids but made into an adult read. I am also looking forward to bringing opportunities forward for other authors with the start perhaps, of my own magazine, or a way to engage readers of all backgrounds with a digital library. Those are only a few things to look forward to!

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

Having resilience is the most important thing for me, without this, I wouldn’t continue to search for new opportunities and ways to make an impact. Learning how to communicate with others and share knowledge and grow mutual connections has also been more impactful than anything. It is so encouraging to have people around you on a similar path to help you stay motivated and to help each other grow. Another skill that I’ve found useful is being able to curate the right environment to get creative. This has improved my productivity, even something as simple as soft jazz and a drink; a simple routine can help you stay on track. If you want to improve with these, the best thing to do is set aside a window of time everyday to ease into it.

What would you advise – going all in on your strengths or investing on areas where you aren’t as strong to be more well-rounded?

There is some truth to both, however leaning into your strengths is always the better idea in my opinion because you are more likely to stick to something you’re good at and excel. When you do something you’re good at, you are less likely to quit because of the rewarding feeling of success. This has been true for me as I keep going back to storytelling and art. The result has been that I am able to make an impact on others in ways I otherwise couldn’t if I focused on an area that isn’t mu expertise. And that’s the great thing about it, everyone is different so it’s not necessary to strain over everything, it’s far more productive to work together.
