We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Lakisha Clark a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Lakisha , we’re thrilled to have you on our platform and we think there is so much folks can learn from you and your story. Something that matters deeply to us is living a life and leading a career filled with purpose and so let’s start by chatting about how you found your purpose.
I found my purpose during one of the darkest seasons of my life. I was going through a divorce, my mother had been diagnosed with throat cancer, and my daughters were struggling deeply—one with suicidal thoughts and the other with anger issues. Everything was crumbling around me, and I felt lost. In that silence, I turned inward and asked God not what was wrong with everyone else, but what was going on within me.
That honest moment led me into therapy and deep self-reflection. I began learning about childhood development and how my own wounds had shaped how I mothered, loved, and coped. It broke me open, but it also gave me the empathy I needed—to see my mother with compassion, to understand my children’s pain, and to start healing myself.
During that time, I quit my job to care for my mother full-time. Waist beads became a form of support—spiritually, emotionally, and even financially. After my mother passed, I felt called to study the meaning and energy behind waist beads more intentionally. Wearing them helped me listen to my body, slow down, reflect, and live with more awareness. That’s what I wanted to give other women—a way to stop, go within, and reconnect with their own divine truth.
That journey led me to become a certified Reiki Level 2 practitioner. My purpose now is to help women reconnect with God, their bodies, and their inner wisdom—so they can heal, grow, and live more consciously. Through sacred strands, energy work, and shared stories, I’ve turned my pain into purpose. And I’m grateful for that calling every day.
Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
I’m the founder of KISH Waist Beads, where I create handcrafted, intention-infused waist beads that support women on their spiritual and healing journeys. Each strand is more than just adornment—it’s a sacred tool for self-awareness, body connection, and energetic alignment. What makes my work special is the intention and energy I pour into every piece. I also offer waist bead ceremonies/parties and Reiki energy sessions to help women pause, listen to their bodies, and reconnect with God and their feminine essence.
The most exciting part of what I do is witnessing women have breakthrough moments—whether it’s feeling more confident in their body, realizing the power of setting intentions, or simply allowing themselves to be still and seen. I’m honored to hold space for those transformations.
Right now, I’m expanding my services to include more energy-based offerings, such as Reiki-infused waist bead sessions and one-on-one spiritual alignment consultations. I’m also planning intimate healing events where women can come together in sacred sisterhood to share, release, and grow.
KISH is a brand rooted in self-love, intentional living, and spiritual healing. Whether you’re beginning your journey or continuing it, I’m here to support you with sacred strands and soul-centered energy work. My hope is that every woman who crosses my path feels more empowered, more whole, and more connected to the divine within her.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Looking back, the three most impactful qualities in my journey have been self-awareness, spiritual connection, and emotional resilience.
Self-awareness came when I finally got still enough to look within instead of pointing outward. It took therapy, journaling, and a willingness to ask hard questions about myself—my patterns, my upbringing, my choices. For anyone starting out, I’d say: don’t be afraid to look in the mirror. Your healing starts with honesty.
Spiritual connection was the anchor that kept me from drifting during my most painful moments. Finding God again in a personal, not performative way, changed everything. If you’re on a spiritual journey, stay open. Ask for guidance, stay curious, and know that your relationship with God or Source is yours to define and grow into.
Emotional resilience is what helped me hold space for others while I was still learning to hold space for myself. Life will throw curveballs—and for me, that meant divorce, caregiving, grief, and parenting through crisis—all at once. The key was learning not just how to survive, but how to feel through it and come out stronger. My advice? Don’t run from the pain. Let it teach you, and let it shape you into someone softer and stronger at the same time.
These qualities didn’t come overnight. They were built through intention, prayer, discipline, and community. Trust the process. The journey isn’t easy, but it’s worth it.
We’ve all got limited resources, time, energy, focus etc – so if you had to choose between going all in on your strengths or working on areas where you aren’t as strong, what would you choose?
I believe both are important—but in different seasons.
There was a time in my life when I had no choice but to strengthen the areas I was weak in. When I became a caregiver for my mother, a single mother to children in crisis, and a woman trying to heal herself—I had to grow emotionally, spiritually, and mentally in ways I never had before. I couldn’t avoid the parts of me that were underdeveloped. I had to confront them head-on. That season required me to become more well-rounded.
But once I got stronger in those areas, I realized that leaning into my natural strengths—like intuition, nurturing, spiritual leadership, and creativity—is where I feel most aligned and impactful. That’s what led me to build KISH Waist Beads. That’s what allows me to connect deeply with women, hold healing space, and infuse energy into every strand I create.
So my belief is this: in your healing season, you invest in your weaknesses so you can become whole—but in your purpose season, you go all in on your strengths because that’s where your power is.
If I had only focused on my weaknesses forever, I would’ve never had the confidence to show up as a guide for others. And if I had only focused on my strengths too soon, I would’ve carried unhealed wounds into the work I do today. There’s a time for both.
The key is being honest with where you are. Are you building your foundation—or are you being called to stand in your light?
