Meet Lamar Adot Thomas

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Lamar Adot Thomas. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Adot, so good to have you with us today. We’ve got so much planned, so let’s jump right into it. We live in such a diverse world, and in many ways the world is getting better and more understanding but it’s far from perfect. There are so many times where folks find themselves in rooms or situations where they are the only ones that look like them – that might mean being the only woman of color in the room or the only person who grew up in a certain environment etc. Can you talk to us about how you’ve managed to thrive even in situations where you were the only one in the room?
I try my best to have my music speak for itself. I’m very respectful. I acknowledge good presence, but I’ll shy away from something fast that I feel isn’t right. Even when I walk in rooms now, people are surprised that I was invited to be there. Sometimes it bigger than me but I have to walk in as myself instead of displaying a character.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
I’ve released over 10 albums and a few mixtapes you can find somewhere on the old mixtapes sites. I’ve dug more into the process of creating everything together. My focus really is making sure I finish the vision. I just performed with The Concert Truck that’s sponsor by the Dallas Symphony. I was able to perform live and showcase another side which is “Anthony” instead of the brand name Adot. My focus is to level up everything I’m already doing.,

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Be resilient. Trust the process. Be careful what you pray for and manifest, Dont neglect everything else for you selfish reasons.

To close, maybe we can chat about your parents and what they did that was particularly impactful for you?
If your grown you on your own. – Parents In these times that might seem cruel but that what’s happening now.
We grow old quicker being young and being old if you survive is a gold stamp for me.
Same as my parents and those that help me survive to the age I’m at now.
