Meet Lamar Atkins

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Lamar Atkins a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Lamar , thank you so much for joining us. You are such a positive person and it’s something we really admire and so we wanted to start by asking you where you think your optimism comes from?

Growing up in humble beginnings in rural South Carolina, all I had was love for my craft and my faith. I have found my optimism through my adversities and obstacles I’ve faced through life. I lean on my faith to keep my head up and go to artistic crafts to find solace and understanding of the world around me.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?

My story is filled with ups and downs and failures and triumphs, but I have focused on spreading the simple message of ” You Are Loved”. I have utilized mediums of vocal performance, dance, event curation, public speaking, creative development to name a few to spread this message. I currently released my first album & U.S. tour entitled “You Are Loved” available on all major streaming platforms and founded Ballet Inc. in 2012 a contemporary ballet company NYC & NC based non for profit that give artist a platform regardless of race ethnicity or traditional dancer limitations within the dance community. There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

1. Perseverance
2. Vision
3. Humility

I would suggest that to improve or move forward in ones career. Learn the power of no being the best asset you can hear, things that are meant for you will gravitate to you, if you are consistent. Have a vision and know that your vision is possible no matter what others say, stay true and authentic to your vision no matter what. Have humility, and embrace knowing that you are ever evolving and learning. You will never have enough knowledge or time served on your craft.

How can folks who want to work with you connect?

I would love to collab with artist utilizing all performing arts mediums. I feel as artist we have create and eco system around us to create, share and collab; so all can be celebrated. Feel free to reach out via my websites
