Meet LaMarcus Ross

We recently connected with LaMarcus Ross and have shared our conversation below.

Alright, so we’re so thrilled to have LaMarcus with us today – welcome and maybe we can jump right into it with a question about one of your qualities that we most admire. How did you develop your work ethic? Where do you think you get it from?
My work ethic was cultivated from a young age, thanks to the strong influence of my father and grandfather. They imparted to me the fundamental principle that ‘if you don’t work, you don’t eat, and if you don’t grind, you don’t shine.’ Growing up, my younger brother and I were consistently tasked with chores both inside and outside our home. These chores weren’t just responsibilities; they were opportunities to learn the value of hard work and self-sufficiency.

The promise of payment for our efforts served as a motivating factor, reinforcing the idea that we needed to work for what we desired. These early experiences taught us the importance of self-reliance and the satisfaction that comes from earning our own way. In essence, my father and grandfather not only instilled a strong work ethic in us but also instilled the belief that with determination and effort, we could provide for ourselves and achieve our goals.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
I am an artist, a recording artist, and an influencer. Art has been an integral part of my life, serving as a means of self-expression both through music and on canvas. Through these creative outlets, I’ve discovered my ability to influence and touch the lives of others with my artistic gifts.

My journey in the world of art began at a young age, around nine years old. Initially, I would trace pictures from coloring books, but it all changed when one day my teacher encouraged me to try drawing without tracing. It was then that I realized I had a genuine talent for art. By the time I reached the 6th grade, I was even designing covers for the school yearbook, and my artistic abilities started to gain recognition.

One significant turning point was when my teacher recommended me for a Gifted Art Class. To gain entry into the class, I had to undergo testing. I vividly remember feeling nervous as I was the youngest student in the room, and I wasn’t sure if I stood a chance. However, I surprised myself by scoring in the highest percentile and was accepted into the program. To further develop my craft, I had to sacrifice one recess a week, during which my dedicated teacher, Brenda Rowen, would come to teach and mentor me. I’m incredibly grateful for that guidance. Since then, my creative journey has encompassed a wide range of accomplishments, from designing shirts and logos to winning various competitions. My work has even graced the walls of the Louisiana State Capitol office.

Now, at the age of 33, I’ve reconnected with my childhood passion for art, and it has evolved into a thriving business known as “ArtbyQreed.” While I’m recognized for my music under the name “King Qreed,” I’ve decided to carry the name Qreed into my art as well, creating a seamless blend of my artistic talents across different mediums.”

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Throughout my journey, three qualities have been consistently impactful: Attitude, Aptitude, and Work Ethic. Maintaining a positive attitude towards life and one’s craft is paramount. Every day, it’s crucial to wake up with a positive mindset, even in the face of adversity. Cultivating a strong desire to learn and grow in your chosen field is essential, and it’s important to apply consistent effort and dedication to maintain a strong work ethic.

Before we go, maybe you can tell us a bit about your parents and what you feel was the most impactful thing they did for you?
The most profound influence my parents had on my life was their unwavering love and support. Without their constant encouragement, I wouldn’t be where I am today. Their approach was never about imposing restrictions or limitations; instead, it was always about saying, ‘Go for it, son! Give it your best shot.’ Knowing that my parents had my back, regardless of what others might say or think, was the greatest gift I could receive.

They consistently pushed me to be true to myself and pursue my dreams. They never pressured me to follow in their footsteps or carry on their legacy. Their belief in my individuality and their support in my pursuit of my own aspirations have been invaluable in shaping the person I am today.
