We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Lana Spencer. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Lana below.
Lana, we’re so excited for our community to get to know you and learn from your journey and the wisdom you’ve acquired over time. Let’s kick things off with a discussion on self-confidence and self-esteem. How did you develop yours?
My confidence wasn’t something I was born with—it was something I built through resilience and intentional practice. Early in my career, I often found myself in rooms where I was the youngest or the only woman, and at first, that was intimidating. Instead of shrinking back, I made a conscious decision to prepare twice as hard and speak once with clarity and conviction.
Over time, I realized confidence isn’t about being the loudest in the room—it’s about showing up consistently, even when you don’t feel ready. I developed a habit of setting small, daily challenges for myself: volunteering to lead a project, raising my hand with an idea, or networking with someone outside my comfort zone. Each time I stretched myself and didn’t fall apart, my confidence grew.
Another key shift came when I stopped chasing perfection and started embracing authenticity. Self-esteem came from recognizing my own worth—valuing my experiences, my perspective, and my voice. Once I stopped apologizing for taking up space and started owning it, opportunities opened, and I began to thrive not only professionally but personally.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
My agency, Let Me Assist LLC, was built to serve a very niche corner of the virtual assistant space—supporting high net worth clients who don’t necessarily need a full-time executive assistant but still require a trusted team to handle high-touch, diverse projects.
Our work spans everything from household bookkeeping to overseeing property turnovers for new tenants, helping families secure the right nanny, and even managing construction projects in private residences. What makes our agency unique is the range of expertise we provide—each client comes to us with a different set of needs, and our team seamlessly steps in to handle them with precision, discretion, and efficiency.
What excites us most is the impact: by taking on these remedial or time-consuming tasks, we free our clients to focus fully on what matters most—whether that’s scaling their businesses, traveling, or simply enjoying uninterrupted time with family.
Let Me Assist LLC fills a very specific gap. Our clients often don’t need a traditional 40-hour-a-week executive assistant, but they do need a flexible, highly capable team they can trust to anticipate needs and execute with excellence. That’s the space we’ve carved out—and it’s been deeply rewarding to see the transformation this level of support brings.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Looking back, the three qualities that have been most impactful in my journey are staying calm under pressure, adaptability, and out-of-the-box problem solving.
Calm under pressure has been essential because in high-stakes environments, especially when supporting high-net-worth clients, emotions run high and timelines are tight. The ability to stay composed, think clearly, and lead with confidence in those moments is often what earns long-term trust.
Adaptability has been equally important. No two days or clients are ever the same in this line of work. One day it may be overseeing a construction project, the next handling household logistics, and the next, managing urgent personal requests. Thriving in this space requires not just flexibility, but the ability to quickly pivot without losing momentum.
Finally, out-of-the-box problem solving has set me apart. Many of the challenges I face don’t come with a roadmap—they require resourcefulness, creativity, and a willingness to find unconventional solutions.
For those early in their journey, my advice is:
• Practice emotional regulation so you can remain steady even when things feel chaotic.
• Embrace change instead of resisting it—adaptability grows when you see challenges as opportunities.
• Challenge yourself to think beyond the obvious answers. Ask, “What’s another way to approach this?” and give yourself permission to try.

We’ve all got limited resources, time, energy, focus etc – so if you had to choose between going all in on your strengths or working on areas where you aren’t as strong, what would you choose?
I believe it depends on where you are in your journey. In the beginning, it’s incredibly valuable to take a well-rounded approach to developing your skills. When you’re starting out—especially as a business owner—you often wear every hat: operations, client management, marketing, finance, and more. That experience teaches you not only how the whole ecosystem works but also builds resilience and adaptability.
Over time, though, real growth comes from recognizing your unique strengths and leaning into them. There’s power in specialization—honing the skills you’re naturally exceptional at, the ones that create the most impact. That’s where you add the most value.
The other side of that is learning how to build the right team. Once you identify where you’re strongest, the goal is not to keep stretching yourself thin by trying to master every weakness. Instead, it’s about bringing in the right people—those who thrive in the areas that aren’t your natural strengths. In my own business, that shift from doing everything myself to trusting a team has been one of the biggest drivers of growth and sustainability.
So in short: start broad to build foundation and resilience, then narrow your focus to your strengths while empowering others to fill the gaps. That’s how you move from surviving to scaling.
