Meet Lance Growth

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Lance Growth. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Lance, thanks so much for taking the time to share your insights and lessons with us today. We’re particularly interested in hearing about how you became such a resilient person. Where do you get your resilience from?

I get my resilience from my background in boxing. I am Connecticut’s 2006 Silver Glove Light heavy weight Champion. Prepping for the title violently taught me how to stay clam under pressure, push beyond your limits, and most of all, resilience. I went from a lost fragile child who could barely looks other men in their eyes to a man of convictions and a forceful yet technical manner of unleashing those convictions on my environment.

Resilience carried me through the painful academic curriculum of law school, resilience is what allows me to with stand negative situations in business and not get deterred, and resilience is what has allowed me to withstand the negativity of the world and still maintain an optimistic feeling of gratitude.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

Reflecting on my journey, three key elements stand out: my boxing pedigree, my law degree, and therapy.

Boxing has been the cornerstone of my ambitions. As Connecticut’s 2006 Silver Glove Light Heavyweight Champion, the rigorous preparation for the title taught me invaluable lessons. It instilled in me the ability to remain calm under pressure, surpass my own limitations, and cultivate resilience. From a vulnerable, uncertain youth who could scarcely meet others’ gazes, I transformed into a man of conviction, channeling my beliefs with both force and finesse.

Next, my law degree holds immense significance. In today’s digital era, where information overload is rampant, I view a law degree as an indispensable asset. While many perceive law school solely as training for legal practice, akin to boxing where true understanding only comes from immersion in the culture, I see it as equipping individuals to navigate vast amounts of information and mold it to achieve desired outcomes.

Finally, therapy became an essential component of my journey. Amidst the pursuit of my goals and the realization of my dreams, I found myself in need of assistance in comprehending the evolution of my identity and my genuine emotions towards it. While success is often glorified, few emphasize the accompanying responsibility, the subtle shifts one undergoes, or the inadvertent sacrifices of certain aspects of oneself for others. Therapy provided me with a profound self-awareness and the tools to navigate the transformative changes in my life.

Thanks so much for sharing all these insights with us today. Before we go, is there a book that’s played in important role in your development?

Wow, countless books have left a profound impact on me; it’s almost impossible to pick just one. However, if I had to choose, Victor Frankel’s “Man’s Search For Meaning” stands out prominently. Frankel, one of the few psychologists to survive the horrors of German concentration camps during WWII, drew me in with his chilling depiction of human depravity. Despite the harrowing narratives within the book, what resonated with me most was Frankel’s revelation of the small space between stimulus and response, where we all possess the power to choose our reactions, no matter how dire the circumstances. I’m immensely grateful for the perspective this book has granted me.

Malcolm Gladwell’s “Blink” provided invaluable insights into the subconscious behaviors of successful individuals, shattering my simplistic notions of success. Additionally, “Gates of Fire,” recounting the Battle of Thermopylae, illuminated the kind of person I aspire to be—a steadfast individual ready to sacrifice everything for my beliefs, my family, and those I hold dear without hesitation.

The list of impactful books could go on indefinitely; each one has contributed uniquely to my growth and understanding.
