Meet Lance Weiss

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Lance Weiss. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Lance, we’re thrilled to have you on our platform and we think there is so much folks can learn from you and your story. Something that matters deeply to us is living a life and leading a career filled with purpose and so let’s start by chatting about how you found your purpose.

Journal, journal, journal…and walking a TON. I feel like so many of us are on the go every second and we get caught up in so many things that we sometimes forget why we’re doing something.

Journaling is great, because it forces you to be honest with yourself. If you go in with the intention of nobody ever reading it, then it’s just you versus yourself and eventually you have to be honest with yourself. I think that’s a great tool to find out who you really are, what you’re doing here, why, etc.

Walking is also great. I think put the phone away and observe the surroundings. I think we’re all a lot more connected than we often realize. When you go on a walk, and look at the trees, the birds, observe the sky, other people going about, you start to see some kind of flow to things.

So I think journaling and walking are always great answers to things. They help us understand why we’re here, what we are doing, maybe enlighten us on a few next steps we should take, etc.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?

As of this month, I have been a standup comedian for 20 years, which is wild. It’s been about half of my life at this point. I just want to make people laugh. I think life can be quite tough for all of us at times so I just want to make it a little better for all of us. That’s pretty much it. I think we’re all here for such a short time and I just want to make it a better to the best of my skillset.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?

Travel – traveling is great because you start to realize that all people are the same. I think everyone should travel some, even if it’s just to the neighboring town nearby. You start to realize that we’re not as different as we sometimes think.

Listen – we’re in a world where everyone is so focused on themselves, social media, and what is popular, that we can sometimes get caught up in our own thing and trying to promote it, tell others about it, etc. I think in general, we should all do a better job at maybe listening a bit more, myself included.

Study – whatever it is that you’re interested in, I think it’s important to study that field. It kind of goes hand-in-hand with my above point. We’re such a fast-paced society, clicks, likes, short videos, etc. But I think it can be really helpful to do deeper dive studies on whatever we’re into. We start to see that there aren’t really that many new ideas, that people have done the thing before and there’s a lot of trial and error that has already been done for us. This can help us speed up our own journey and help us decide how we’re going to put our own little twist on something.

One of our goals is to help like-minded folks with similar goals connect and so before we go we want to ask if you are looking to partner or collab with others – and if so, what would make the ideal collaborator or partner?

Yes! I’m always looking to collaborate on projects with writers, producers, videographers, filmmakers, comedians, etc. You have to be open to everything, that’s how you learn, get to be a part of new opportunities, etc. In the creative arts, and life in general, I think being open is the way forward to change, creativity, progress, etc.
