Meet LaQuandria Leatherwood

We recently connected with LaQuandria Leatherwood and have shared our conversation below.

Alright, so we’re so thrilled to have LaQuandria with us today – welcome and maybe we can jump right into it with a question about one of your qualities that we most admire. How did you develop your work ethic? Where do you think you get it from?
I would have to say, I get my work ethics from my mother and grandmother. My mother worked and went to college, so seeing her accomplish many things made me realize that if I wanted it I had to go get it, and don’t let nothing stop me from getting it!

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
Well, I started making hair oil back in 2017 when I noticed my dry, flaky, and itchy scalp. I would change my hairstyle almost every week and that would be my creative outlet. Then I started doing my family and friends hair and seeing my creativity come together and the beauty after the hair service is so special to me!

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Three most impactful skills or qualities along this journey would be staying organized, learning and creating a budget, and just continuing to learn! My advice would be to get a journal and write EVERYTHING down, believe in yourself, stay consistent, don’t give up, and you won’t know everything and that is ok!

Alright so to wrap up, who deserves credit for helping you overcome challenges or build some of the essential skills you’ve needed?
I would say my mother and Urban Impact Birmingham. Urban Impact Birmingham has a great program for any business owners. When I started the program, we discussed having and creating a business plan, different apps to help write a business plan, creating a budget, resources to help get you funded for your business, and also lawyers if you needed legal advice!
