Meet Lark Holiday

We were lucky to catch up with Lark Holiday recently and have shared our conversation below.

Lark, thrilled to have you on the platform as I think our readers can really benefit from your insights and experiences. In particular, we’d love to hear about how you think about burnout, avoiding or overcoming burnout, etc.

My goal is to be a happy author. That’s it. I’m not saying that I never tango with burnout. Sometimes things have to get done, even if they aren’t enjoyable in the moment. But if this isn’t fun, then I don’t see the point. For this reason, I also work another job. Combined with authoring, it makes for long hours. But it also gives me the freedom to make decisions that support being a happy author and allows me to write the stories of my heart.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?

I write feel-good and funny small town romances. All my books are closed door, though there is a healthy dose of (hopefully humorous) cursing in each one. There is also a strong found family theme that runs throughout all my stories. I write to give readers a place to come home to no matter where they are.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

I have just one: trust your heart. Some of my best choices were the ones that made the least amount of sense at the time. That’s okay. The only one who has to live your life is you. And you know yourself better than anyone. You’ve got this.

Thanks so much for sharing all these insights with us today. Before we go, is there a book that’s played in important role in your development?

Big Magic by Elizabeth Gilbert isn’t just a favorite, it’s a must! I go back to it again and again. Sometimes I flip it open to a random page for a smile. It’s not just the advice in this book that helps me, it’s the way it makes me feel. And it’s only because the author persevered and brought this book to life that I can now enjoy it. Thank you, Elizabeth! I wish she could know how much peace her writing has brought my heart.
