Meet Larry Roberts

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Larry Roberts. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Hi Larry, thank you so much for opening up with us about some important, but sometimes personal topics. One that really matters to us is overcoming Imposter Syndrome because we’ve seen how so many people are held back in life because of this and so we’d really appreciate hearing about how you overcame Imposter Syndrome.

I overcame imposter syndrome by finally recognizing the value of my experience and expertise in the podcasting industry. After spending 25 years in the corporate world and more than a decade as a digital brand influencer, I came to understand that my knowledge and accomplishments weren’t just relevant, they were rare.

Hosting and promoting major podcasting events like Podfest, writing best-selling books, and speaking on some of the biggest stages in the industry helped me build the confidence I needed. Instead of letting self-doubt hold me back, I leaned into my passion for personal branding and podcasting, trusting that my unconventional approach and proven results spoke for themselves.

By continuing to deliver value through my company, Red Hat Media, coaching clients, and establishing myself as a thought leader, I turned imposter syndrome into the motivation that drives my success today.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?

I’m the founder of Red Hat Media, a purpose-driven, Signal Award winning, podcasting and branding agency that helps thought leaders, entrepreneurs, and businesses connect with their audiences through high-quality, branded podcasts. What excites me most about the work I do is helping clients unlock their unique voice and brand story, then amplifying that message through powerful, professional podcasts that truly resonate. Podcasting is such a dynamic platform because it allows for deep connections, authentic storytelling, and strategic brand building, all in one.

What makes Red Hat Media special is our holistic approach. We don’t just produce podcasts; we create a complete brand experience. From helping clients choose a unique, value-driven podcast name to designing brand-centric cover art, setting up professional recording studios, and developing content strategies that leverage AI for maximum reach, we cover every aspect of podcasting and branding.

Right now, I’m particularly excited about several new projects. We’re expanding to our brick-and-mortar studio space, with multiple recording sets designed for both audio and video content creation. This expansion will allow small to medium business owners to position themselves as thought leaders with professionally produced content that can be repurposed across platforms like YouTube, TikTok, and Instagram.

I’m also working on a new podcast called AI Proof, which focuses on how people can future-proof their lives and careers by staying prepared for the AI revolution. Additionally, I’m developing a series of AI-focused workshops designed to help independent podcasters and content creators integrate AI tools into their workflows, making content creation more efficient and impactful.

Ultimately, my mission is to empower brands and individuals to stand out by creating content that not only informs but also inspires. Red Hat Media is where high-quality production meets strategic branding, giving clients the tools and support they need to grow their influence and audience in today’s competitive landscape.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

Looking back, three key qualities made the biggest impact on my journey: resilience, adaptability, and the ability to build strong personal brands.

Resilience was essential because the podcasting and branding space is competitive and constantly evolving. There were times when imposter syndrome crept in or when projects didn’t go as planned, but pushing through those challenges made all the difference. For anyone starting out, my advice is to embrace failure as part of the process. Every misstep teaches you something valuable. Stay committed, trust your process, and don’t let temporary setbacks define your journey.

Adaptability has also been crucial. The rise of AI and new digital trends means you have to stay current or risk falling behind. I’ve been able to stay ahead by continuously learning and experimenting with new technologies, especially AI, to streamline content creation and branding strategies. For those early in their journey, I recommend staying curious. Explore new tools, stay updated on industry trends, and be willing to pivot when needed. The ability to adapt will keep you relevant and ahead of the curve.

Finally, mastering personal branding changed everything for me. People connect with stories, personalities, and authenticity. Building a personal brand that reflects who you are and the value you bring opens doors and builds trust. For those just starting, focus on finding your unique voice and staying consistent with your messaging. Share your journey, insights, and expertise in a way that resonates with your audience. The stronger your personal brand, the more opportunities will come your way.

Thanks so much for sharing all these insights with us today. Before we go, is there a book that’s played in important role in your development?

One book that played a major role in my development is “Start with Why” by Simon Sinek. The core idea of understanding your why completely reshaped how I approach branding, podcasting, and even my personal growth. It helped me realize that people don’t just buy what you do, they buy why you do it. This concept pushed me to build Red Hat Media with a purpose-driven approach, focusing on creating meaningful connections between brands and audiences through storytelling.

Another impactful takeaway from the book is the importance of consistency in communicating your why. When your purpose, beliefs, and values are reflected in everything you do, it builds trust and loyalty. For me, that meant ensuring every podcast my agency launches is more than just content, it’s a reflection of a brand’s core values and vision.

Lastly, Sinek’s emphasis on leadership resonated deeply. He explains that great leaders inspire action by making people feel like they’re part of something bigger. This mindset helped me become not just a service provider but a strategic partner to my clients, guiding them to see their podcast as a powerful platform for influence and leadership.
