We caught up with the brilliant and insightful LaShasta Bell a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Hi LaShasta, so great to have you on the platform. There’s so much we want to ask you, but let’s start with the topic of self-care. Do you do anything for self-care and if so, do you think it’s had a meaningful impact on your effectiveness?
I prioritize my sleep, my rest and my peace. The impact has been tremendous on me as a person, as an entrepreneur as a wife as a mom, etc. I am more clear in my thinking, my energy is great, I am less irritable for sure, and my patience has increased.
Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
Goodness! This is always the question that really allows me to reflect on my journey as a person and entrepreneur. What I do is a help folk go to sleep and stay asleep. My God given purpose is to increase the awareness and the quality of sleep in our world, therefore increasing our cognitive abilities, decreasing stress, decreasing anxiety, and all the things that come with sleep deprivation-Which are many. Productivity and longevity are #goals in life however sleep is the last thing we consider when trying to achieve said goals. I work to put sleep on everyone’s mind, as a way of decreasing the stress of work and deadlines and politics and social injustices. When we focus on sleep all of the above improve because our ability to think more clearly improves. What’s new yet old, (been doing it awhile but not marketing it) I am truly putting my focus more on corporate wellness. What I discovered when doing presentations, keynotes and trainings for companies is people pay attention at work! They are most focused, most present because they’re trying to accomplish a task at hand, therefore working with corporations and building their wellness programming will allow for direct impact and consistent impact because for the most part people are gonna show up at work even if it’s presenteeism. I love to start with leadership by curating my Blindspot, The Strategic Planning Sleepover. Imagine “spending the night at grandma’s house mixed with learning strategies to improve personal and professional productivity in the most fun, casual way. I finalizing my book about sleep (of course) it’s impact and understanding that we should literally be cultivate our sleep from the moment we wake up.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
So I’m a God’s girl, and I wholeheartedly believe keeping in the forefront of your mind that there is a greater good that goes forth with the work that we do, being able to tap in to a space or a person or entity that’s greater than to draw strength when needed, and persistency.
One of our goals is to help like-minded folks with similar goals connect and so before we go we want to ask if you are looking to partner or collab with others – and if so, what would make the ideal collaborator or partner?
Some of my friends affectionately reference me as the “plug” as they believe I’m always connecting people and connecting with people. That being said, I love a good collaboration and at this point in my journey, the best collaboration would be with an organization, company, and or entity seeking to improve culture and wellness.
