LaShawnda , thank you so much for joining us and offering your lessons and wisdom for our readers. One of the things we most admire about you is your generosity and so we’d love if you could talk to us about where you think your generosity comes from.

Growing up in the country with my grandmother, I learned a lot about giving to others. She taught me John 3:16 and that it’s more blessed to give than receive. My grandmother would feed people in the community whether they were family or not. She also gave away clothes to help the less fortunate and taught us it’s better to give than to receive. She told me that as long as you give to help others, God will ensure others care for you. I watched her life and she wasn’t lying either. People would give her many things, but the most significant payment I saw her receive was time. My grandmother was never lonely. Somebody was always calling her, stopping by to talk with her, or giving her items and money because of her kindness.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

The most important skills in my journey have been attention to detail, flexibility, faith, and communication. Since I was a little girl, I have loved details and wanted to know what, why, and how. Because I like to understand entire processes and the impact of things, I was always able to obtain roles that required problem-solving and the ability to expound on subjects. Your ability to communicate well and actively listen will take you places you never dreamed of. I added my faith because without my faith in God and who he has created me to be I wouldn’t be who I am today.

If you are in your career and seeking to develop, I can’t stress enough the importance of a mentor, sponsor, or ally. You need someone to speak your name in rooms you are not in (sponsor), help you avoid pitfalls they experienced(mentor), support you in your journey, and look different than you(ally). Having these 3 people in your life will enable you to get support, knowledge, and connection to people who will sharpen your skills and equip you with what you need to grow. Another piece of advice I have for professionals is to be a sponge. You should never be the smartest person in the room. Life is constantly evolving, and so should you. Therefore, take every opportunity to learn from those who are in roles you are interested in or have achieved goals you admire. Remember, iron sharpens iron. Lastly, I love people and treat them fairly. When you genuinely love people, you want them to win, and you will do your best not intentionally to cause others harm but will instead support, uplift, and inspire them forward.

Okay, so before we go we always love to ask if you are looking for folks to partner or collaborate with?

I seek to connect with others who are passionate about creating equal opportunities for others to succeed. To make it more transparent, we want partners that care about all families achieving economic sufficiency, people creating innovative tech solutions, increased diversity in leadership and stem career fields, thriving businesses, and people being emotionally well. We also are seeking to collaborate with businesses that provide services to high-achieving professionals,, for example,, image consultants, wellness coaches, etc.
