Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Lasse Elkjaer. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Lasse, thanks so much for taking the time to share your insights and lessons with us today. We’re particularly interested in hearing about how you became such a resilient person. Where do you get your resilience from?
I believe my resilience comes from being one of those very curious kids wanting to ‘figure-it-out.’ – Even though my first fascination was music, I grew up with sports. During my competitive junior years, I achieved podium position at the Danish championship in gymnastics. Danish culture is usually very careful with being too loud, especially when you stand out and reach certain achievements, so what-ever resilience I have in me, I had to build from scratch and to some degree in silence. One very special lightbulb moment that was handed to me early on, was when – as a gymnast – my technique was used as an example. It kinda made the wheels in my brain spin a bit more than usual, trying to put two-and-two together, figure out how I got to that point. Years later, all this accumulated in the win at the Danish championship. It sparked my curiosity, asking myself multiple questions and some that most possible have paved the way towards my career as a film composer in Los Angeles. As an adult, I want to be a good example for the younger generation in my family and hopefully make them understand that a certain amount of resilience can be a very crucial ingredient in your life, finding your own unique path towards happiness and exciting adventures.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
I’m a Los Angeles-based composer and orchestrator originally from Denmark. The recent feature I scored became a top ranking movie in several countries during its VOD release in Scandinavia. Its title is STAND YOUR GROUND, an action movie starring Michael Bay favorite Peter Stormare (Fargo,1996) Eric Roberts (The Dark Knight, 2007) and the Norwegian bodybuilder champion Daniel Stisen (Those About To Die – TV Series 2024). MOBIUS (Netflix, iQIYI) a Chinese Sci-Fi time-travel series that just got released – I worked on the show as one of the composers – ranked no.2 in China during its release and no.1 in Thailand. I’ve also had the very fortunate opportunity to work as an orchestrator on CHEF’S TABLE: LEGENDS (Netflix) the show just received an EMMY for Outstanding Music Composition for a Documentary Series or Special (Original Drama Score.) In November I’m heading to Denmark, as an orchestral score of mine has been chosen for CUE 2025 – Aarhus Film Scoring Competition, which can be experienced live in concert with an orchestra. The Austrian chart hitting symphonic metal band DRAGONY, are collaborating with me yet again, this time for their next single, I’ll be working on the single as their orchestral arranger.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Looking back; consistency, willingness to work hard for a specific vision and simply curiosity to try and ‘figure-it-out’ have probably been some of the most impactful elements for my journey so far. But having a collaborative mindset is number one. If it wasn’t because of my family, friends, colleagues and all the people out there who now and then check in with me, show me encouragement and their positivity, I wouldn’t be where I am today. – Advice for people who are early in their journey: Have a strong vision of where you want to head in life and then simply try and figure-it-out as you go. Enjoy the process, the hills and valleys, be curious, consistent and try your best to keep moving forward. If you first start the train, do not pull the breaks. You never know what’s around the next corner! And not to forget, there’s so much knowledge free for grabs out there in the digital world. We live in very special times, in that regard, make good use of it!

Who is your ideal client or what sort of characteristics would make someone an ideal client for you?
The ideal clients of mine are honestly the ones I’ve been working with for the last year or so. It’s brother’s in arms, good friends, creative heads that bubbles with enthusiasm and are willing to work way too hard. There’s never a sensitive moment between us when revisions are asked for, we simply figure-it-out. And most importantly, we are excited on each other’s behalf and also what’s going on beside work.
