Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to LaTanya L. Hill, JD. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
LaTanya L., so great to have you sharing your thoughts and wisdom with our readers and so let’s jump right into one of our favorite topics – empathy. We think a lack of empathy is at the heart of so many issues the world is struggling with and so our hope is to contribute to an environment that fosters the development of empathy. Along those lines, we’d love to hear your thoughts around where your empathy comes from?
I grew up being called every name in the book by classmates and so-called friends because I am a dark-skinned African-American. I was called “blackie,” “midnight,” “11:59-the closest thing to midnight,” “the Creature from the Black Lagoon,” and so many more rude names with the intent to hurt me, denigrate me, and lift the name callers to what they considered a higher pedestal. Even if someone was complementing me, it was always, “you are pretty for such a dark-skinned girl,” or “to be dark-skinned, you look good.” It gives one a complex, these remarks. It also gives birth to someone who is more empathetic towards others who are judged on their appearance or treated differently because of the way they look, speak, or even think.
The trauma that I felt growing up being considered too dark-skinned to be completely respected and not light-skinned enough to be accepted in the eyes of not only my fellow African-Americans, but also mainstream white America left a mark on my heart and soul that deepened so much, I could feel the pain of others when they are mistreated as if I am reliving my own tragic childhood. It took many decades to remove those scars, and the ability to empathize with others remains strong.
Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
At this time in my life, I am more spiritual and introspective about my mind, heart, and soul. I am interested in personal development, healing, and enlightenment in this realm of existence. I practice Reiki and share it with others because I truly believe it is my life’s mission here on this planet. After being seriously ill and in treatment, Reiki helped in my recovery on all levels. Therefore, I created, IMREIKINOW, an energy healing business in Los Angeles and Yucca Valley to do the same for others. Now, I not only help people and animals by conducting healing sessions, I also certify others who have special gifts and want to become healers themselves. To help spread the Reiki knowledge, I wrote a Reiki handbook, Reiki Vibrations with 33 Guided Meditations and Affirmations, and I am a contributing writer for an international Reiki organization, Reikirays.com. I am also an expert meditation teacher on Insight Timer with numerous Reiki meditations to help people in their daily life.
The most exciting thing about being a Reiki Master Teacher and Chakra Healing Master is the happiness a client and student feels when they have beneficial results. I love the look on their face and the excitement in their voice once everything clicks for them. I have had many people contact me weeks after a session telling me how the world looks different or how doors seemed to open for them automatically. It is very rewarding and I am so grateful to be a part of their healing journey. I am also very tapped in and interested in working with animals. I have helped a few abused or injured doggies at dog rescue organizations with healing recovery and chakra balancing, BarknBitches and Lilly’s Lovebugs, to be specific. I find that working with animals is one of the most pure and natural things I have done with Reiki. I am looking forward to working with more dog owners and rescue organizations nationwide.
Additionally, I also own a 1/2 acre, 3 bedroom, 2 bath home in Yucca Valley that I named The Reiki House, which may be rented by persons seeking a peaceful space surrounded by Joshua Trees, mountains, plant life, desert animals, and more. It is a great upscale neighborhood for those on vacation with family or friends or for those who want to have an intensive and personal healing sessions with life altering results. While staying there, people can schedule in advance Reiki healing sessions and even order pre-made meals by a professional chef. Information about booking the home and/or services may be found on my website.
Finally, I am transitioning my business online so that I am able to reach more people and organizations while still using the Reiki House for rentals and deep healing sessions. For those persons unable to travel, such as those in hospitals or hospice or senior homes or extenuating circumstances, I will still conduct in-person visits in the LA or Yucca Valley/Joshua Tree area.
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
There is a definite need for people skills, positive communication skills, writing skills, creativity, and high positivity and acceptance of whatever happens in a Reiki session or training. My advice for those early in their journey is to continue with the work no matter the obstacle or thoughts of others. If you know or feel you are on the proper path to personal fulfillment and happiness, don’t ever stop. Have faith in yourself and your gifts.
One of our goals is to help like-minded folks with similar goals connect and so before we go we want to ask if you are looking to partner or collab with others – and if so, what would make the ideal collaborator or partner?
I am looking to collaborate with those businesses, agencies, and hospitals that are interested in the overall health of their employees and clients. I am presently developing trainings and classes to assist those in the medical field with patient care and I am creating programs to help employees reduce stress and block negative energies within the workplace. It is my hope that Reiki and alternative medicine is as common as our yearly physicals. If anyone wants to learn more or collaborate with me, they can reach out to me at [email protected] and also review my website at https://imreikinow.com to learn more about me and my business.
