Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Latia Nelson. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Latia , we’re thrilled to have you sharing your thoughts and lessons with our community. So, for folks who are at a stage in their life or career where they are trying to be more resilient, can you share where you get your resilience from?
My resilience is hereditary. It’s in my genes. I’m a Lowcountry native of Gullah descent, and resilience is deeply ingrained in our DNA and at the heart of our culture. That resiliency passed down from generation to generation has been necessary for survival and respectability in my community and culture. More importantly, I was raised by powerful and resilient women who taught me, no matter what, to keep going, and that no matter what happens, I’ll survive. I’m thankful and grateful for the values I was taught at a young age.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
I am the founder and lead planner of Marry Me Event Production & Design. I plan and design destination weddings and brand activations within the US. A lot of people don’t know this, but I’m a lifestyle expert and founder of multiple lifestyle brands. It’s my golden thread. My career as a creative entrepreneur and lifestyle expert enables me to create and design intentional experiences that enhance the lives of others. Storytelling is at the core of what I do, and my work allows me to create cohesive, compelling bodies of work in anything that I do, whether I’m creating and designing a memorable wedding, or designing a new fragrance, floral design project, or brand activation. It brings me so much joy! My latest projects include a winter wedding in Savannah, GA and a brand activation for a luxury brand.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
The qualities most impactful in my journey are creativity, curiosity, and confidence. These are my personal three c’s. Natural curiosity fuels creativity and the confidence to try new things. I’m self-taught at everything I do, and have refined my skills over the years by learning and expanding my understanding. As a millennial, I come from a generation where thinking outside the box, and being curious were encouraged and embraced culturally, so the experience may be slightly different today than it was fifteen to twenty years ago. Because we are in different times, with a sea of information, I would encourage others on a similar journey to stay true to themselves and remain curious about everything. The creativity and confidence will follow.

Thanks so much for sharing all these insights with us today. Before we go, is there a book that’s played in important role in your development?
The 48 Laws of Power really played an important role in my life journey. It’s really helped me in business, also. It taught me a lot about human behavior and how to conduct myself in everyday interactions with others. It’s a book of social strategy. I love it.
