We recently connected with LaToya Brown and have shared our conversation below.
LaToya, thank you so much for making time for us. We’ve always admired your ability to take risks and so maybe we can kick things off with a discussion around how you developed your ability to take and bear risk?
I’ve always been a risk taker and a person who just steps out on faith. I’ve always been told nothing beats a failure but a try and my step father instilled that into me at a young age. I’ve always wanted more. I knew that standing still wouldn’t get me where I am today. I believe in if it don’t work at least you tried and never stop trying. Perseverance is key!
Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
Being an entrepreneur is a great benefit and you have to take the good bad and ugly. It’s times where you want to say forget all of this but then you have to chin up and realize your purpose. I love pouring into people I love having a positive impact on my friends family and community. My main goal is generational wealth that’s first and foremost I want my family to be ok. I didn’t have to struggle growing up but I didn’t know the things about business as I do now. My mom had a business but she was in the hair industry she always sold products she play a major role in my beauty supply store. My tax office I feel I was destined to open that my major in high school was accounting and after that I went right into the banking industry. For years I said I want to work for myself I literally said I’m tired of counting all this money and it don’t belong to me. That was my motivation one day this will be me. I also told my aunt that one day I will open up an office and she would be my assistant I spoke these words years ago and today here we are she’s my assistant I don’t know what I would do without her she play a major role in my tax office. My tax office also has professional leading edge tax software with a program to assist individuals to open up their own successful tax office. For years I’ve been on the front end of the tax business using other companies software now I own mines and it’s for sale to professional tax company’s as my own this last year I launched it . I’m very excited and proud of myself it’s called Island Tax Pro and it’s all online. I never ever thought this would be me! I just always said I wanted to do this and that but I put the work in and dedicated my time to this. Each year I compete with myself on being a better version of myself. Words of advice never give up and you can do anything you put your mind to do!
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Looking back dedication, never giving up. , staying positive. Always willing to learn new things was very impactful in my journey . The advice I have is to network be open minded, & stay focused on the prize; if it don’t work try again! You go through it to grow through it! It’s never too late.
Alright, so before we go we want to ask you to take a moment to reflect and share what you think you would do if you somehow knew you only had a decade of life left?
If I only had a decade to live. First off I would try to spend the majority of my time with my children. Preparing them for this world that they will be in alone once I’m gone. I will start focusing on making sure my oldest know everything I know so she can be able to run the businesses properly so that she could live comfortable. I will also try to accomplish all the things I was fearful of so I would step out on faith. This is a tough question because who puts limits on life. But I definitely would be more focused on my children then anything making sure they are able to cope with the transition from me being here to being gone.
