We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful LaToya Howard. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with LaToya below.
LaToya, so good to have you with us today. We’ve always been impressed with folks who have a very clear sense of purpose and so maybe we can jump right in and talk about how you found your purpose?
I found my purpose by really identifying with things that I most care about. This is how I recognized my strengths, weaknesses as well as my talents. Then I would ask myself how can I connect to individuals? I simply just reflected on my life experiences and how certain impressions left me understanding my own gifts using them to contribute to the world,
Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
I am a Hairstylist in Buffalo New York. I specialize in all hair types. There are some hairstylists that only cater to one type of ethnicity, but I wanted to branch out and be different. I do all types of hair and I love it, because I get to meet all types of people. I started to do clients makeup after covid here and there, but in the last year or so, my makeup service has really taken off, so I’m excited about that, it’s definitely something different but it’s so much fun. I am currently working on a Q & A project for my salon, so please look out for that.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
I think learning the ends and outs of the hair industry world, and the consistency of learning new techniques and trends to stay current as a business owner as well as a hair stylist. Also, having the right people around you helps, people that are positive and who will give you good advice.
I say educate yourself before you try to open a business learn your purpose and then move toward it.
Is there a particular challenge you are currently facing?
Well, Not only am I an Entrepeneur / Hairstylist I am also a caregiver for my mother who I have been taken care of in the last 7 years, that alone is challenging; trying to work and take care of her was very hard but God got me through it, and he is still helping me every day. Fulltime business owner and a full-time caregiver is not for the weak. But God gives his strongest soldiers the toughest battles and I had to remember this daily, My clients were and are still very supportive and I thank each and every one of them, I really didn’t know how I was going to manage both, I thought I have to quit working but I didn’t and I’m so grateful, because I love what I do, it’s my purpose.
