We caught up with the brilliant and insightful LaToya Yarbrough LPN, MOL a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
LaToya , thank you so much for making time for us today. We can’t wait to dive into your story and the lessons you’ve learned along the way, but maybe we can start with something foundational to your success. How have you gone about developing your ability to communicate effectively?
Honestly communication was not my strong suit. I was a better in person kind of girl. When I really learned the power of communication was when I took an interpersonal communications class in college. Recognizing tones, listening types, and how to process information while effectively communicating was a mind blowing concept for me.
Later when I started my nursing classes I was able to add therapeutic communication to my skills list.
Combined with life experience and work experience I am now not only a better communicator but also a better listener.
Understanding where people’s thoughts or opinions are rooted in before prejudging their tone is also a great tool in entrepreneurship.
Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
My name is Toya Danielle Yarbrough, I am a Licensed Practical Nurse with a Master’s degree in Project Management. I have over a decade of healthcare experience helping women and pediatric kiddos heal.
I founded Tricky Royalty Wellness in 2021 to help women find peace in their homes during the pandemic.
Since then Tricky Royalty has grown to a holistic wellness company.
Tricky Royalty Wellness inspires to help women feel safe in the health care system post operatively, in their community, business, and homes with our products, services, and events.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
I would say communication, resilience, and meditation. If you don’t want to go to college to learn communicate skills I encourage you to find a book on not only communication but communication in leadership. A lot of entrepreneurs have never even been in a leadership position prior to opening their businesses so back office things and customer service issues can feel overwhelming. Meditation helps as well even if it is only 15 seconds a day. Just spend some time in your own mind. And lastly remember every day that you got this. You absolutely can do it!
Awesome, really appreciate you opening up with us today and before we close maybe you can share a book recommendation with us. Has there been a book that’s been impactful in your growth and development?
Honestly, It was Joel Olsteen “Every day a Friday : how to be happier 7 days a week” . This book really helped shift my perspective and my thoughts about finding opportunities in each day instead of focusing on the bad or negative things.
