Meet Latricia Bass, CPC, CPB, CPC-I

We were lucky to catch up with Latricia Bass, CPC, CPB, CPC-I recently and have shared our conversation below.

Latricia , thank you so much for joining us today. Let’s jump right into something we’re really interested in hearing about from you – being the only one in the room. So many of us find ourselves as the only woman in the room, the only immigrant or the only artist in the room, etc. Can you talk to us about how you have learned to be effective and successful in situations where you are the only one in the room like you?

Such a great question. I have entered many room where I am the only person in the room that looks like myself as well as have the skillset I have. My skill sets is unique and a niche to the healthcare industry. I was able to overcome the uncomfortable feeling by standing on a quote I take with me everywhere, “It’s not what you know or who you, but who knows you.” This has been my go to strategy becoming an entrepreneur. In order to scale and growth, you must network with the crowd. Being the only one that looks like me in the room automatically gave me leverage to stand out for one to remember.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?

I started in the medical field 28 years ago and had plans to become a nurse. During my time in the field, I was exposed to so many different aspects of the field that I was able to explore. That changed the trajectory of my nursing path and my love to help people in a different way. How do I empower and help the people that are helping the people? Simple, make sure they are recognize and compensated for the hard sacrificial work they do for others. Get them paid! Understanding the frustration of providers in the medical field became a goal of mine to ensure not just the patients are happy but they are also. Optimizing workflows, empowering physicians and staff on the compliance of billing and coding became a drive for me. As a Certified Professional Coder and Biller, I encourage providers to invest into their staff or hire an outsourcing company that has staff with these qualifications to increase revenue and keep the doors open to help more individuals and their families. Let me take on the admin and revenue work so they can focus on what they went to school for… Quality patient care. Not only do we provide revenue cycle management but we also provider the medical billing and coding courses to help inspiring future billers or coders to become Certified Professionals and sit for the national exam through AAPC.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

Do not despise small beginnings. This is just the start of the finish line. The skills that I was able to inquire on my job from learning customer service, technical support, and how the money really cycles gave me the ability to develop into a leadership role. Every portion of a business is all important and significant. I advise people to take advantage to learning all that you can and gain the skillset needed to pursue your dreams of the big picture and long term goals. You may not need it now but it will all come full circle. Think of it as getting paid while on the job training for your success.

To close, maybe we can chat about your parents and what they did that was particularly impactful for you?

During and currently on my journey, my parents supported me every step of the way. Even though I do not believe they still have a full concept of what I really do, lol. Having my parents to encourage me and not let me throw in the towel when I wanted to quit was very impactful for me. They encouraged me to stay on my path and not jump into any other lane unless I felt as if I gave it my all and exhausted all efforts. Master what is in front of you, they have instilled in me.
