We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Laura a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Laura, really happy you were able to join us today and we’re looking forward to sharing your story and insights with our readers. Let’s start with the heart of it all – purpose. How did you find your purpose?
There was a time in my life not so long ago, where i felt like i had hit rock bottom. While I did have a good paying job, a great relation with my partner, family and friends. I was still feeling very unsatisfied with my life. I felt like i wasn’t fully fulfilling my purpose and I thought about it every single day. I came to realize that the job that i was at, was completely draining me of my energy and impacting my mental health in a negative way. I knew that the job wasn’t for me, but i still stayed because of the pay. The longer i stayed, the worse I got. I felt like my light dimmed and I had lost a lot of motivation for doing the things that I used to love doing. Only activity that was keeping me sane was Djing.
After months of being like this, I decided that enough was enough and no amount of money could keep me there anymore. With the support of my fiance, I quit and never looked back. Within a week of quitting, I started working as a social media freelancer at a digital marketing firm, thanks to an old coworker I had. I was finally able to use that creativity that i’ve always had, and create content for businesses who needed to grow their brand. The best part of it all was that i could see that my work was actually impacting people in a positive way. The more I got into social media, the more i started to love my job. Not only was i becoming more happy, but i finally started to feel like I was finding my purpose. Then it clicked, I was never meant to be working a regular 9-5, I’m too creative for that!
Since starting this new journey about 7 months ago, I can say that life has gotten so much better. I’m more motivated than ever! I’m helping business owner grow their brands by using my creativity, I even started growing my own DJ social media page which has helped me get many DJ gigs around Texas. I’m overall back to doing the things i once loved. My purpose has always been to share my creativity with the world, whether that’s on social media, or on the decks.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
Im currently a social media manager/content creator for 5 different businesses in the Houston area. My favorite part of doing this creating great content that helps my clients grow.
On the side, I’m also a house/techno Dj. i go by “LAU” I usually play at Bauhaus Houston and recently i’ve been blessed to open up for some really big DJ’s such as Sistik, Aluna, SidePiece, and more

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
1. The ability to leave something that is no longer serving you. I feel like a lot of us feel stuck where were at and it can get hard to leave and start something new. You gotta take that leap of faith because you never know what better opportunities may come your way.
2. Self-awareness and Emotional Intelligence: Understanding my own patterns, triggers, and strengths allowed me to grow with intention. The more I became aware of how I respond to challenges or feedback, the more I could lead myself (and others) effectively.
3. Resilience: Setbacks are bound to happen, but the ability to bounce back, regroup, and stay the course has been essential. Resilience isn’t just about keeping things going, it’s about how you respond under pressure and what you choose to believe about yourself in hard times.
Advice: If you’re early in your journey, start by trusting yourself enough to leave what no longer serves you growth begins outside your comfort zone. Build self-awareness by reflecting, asking for feedback, and learning to pause before reacting. And when challenges come, lean into resilience, not by being tough, but by choosing to rise, learn, and to keep going.

To close, maybe we can chat about your parents and what they did that was particularly impactful for you?
My mom came to the US to give me and my siblings a better life.
