Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Laura Alessio. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Laura, so happy to have you on the platform and I think our readers are in for a treat because you’ve got such an interesting story and so much insight and wisdom. So, let’s start with a topic that is relevant to everyone, regardless of industry etc. What do you do for self-care and how has it impacted you?
For self-care I do daily meditation which helps me to clear my mind and envision how I would like the remainder of my day and/or week to look. I first learned about meditation when I started practicing yoga nearly 20 years ago, but have taken a deeper dive into meditation since I took my yoga teacher training back in 2019. Last month I was very grateful to be able to attend a meditation retreat with Dr. Joe Dispenza that was absolutely mind blowing. There are so many powerful benefits to meditation that I have not only seen first hand in my own experience, but also directly in others who I had just met at the retreat.


Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
I am a compassionate and non-judgmental Health and Wellness Nurse Coach committed to helping individuals find their optimal physical, mental, and emotional health. I offer one-on-one highly personalized coaching where I work with clients in a collaborative partnership to identify unique needs, challenges, and aspirations. I take a holistic, whole-person approach to wellness and believe that lasting change and vitality come from addressing all aspects of life including physical, mental, and emotional. I commit to being your dedicated guide, providing the support, accountability, and motivation you need to overcome challenges and cultivate sustainable, healthy habits. I’m here to listen, understand, and provide the guidance needed to overcome obstacles, build confidence, and achieve wellness goals.
During our sessions we’ll delve into various aspects of wellness and cocreate a customized plan and goals together that fit seamlessly into your lifestyle ensuring that the changes you make are sustainable and enjoyable. We can work on anything from nutrition/healthy eating, physical activity/fitness, stress management/mindfulness, chronic condition management, sleep optimization, and or any other areas relevant to your life. My experience as a devoted practitioner of yoga and meditation for the past 20 years complements my professional expertise. As a certified yoga teacher, I integrate holistic practices into my coaching, emphasizing the importance of mental and physical well-being. With my unique background of clinical knowledge, cultural competence, holistic practices, and passion for living an active, balanced life I’m dedicated to guiding others toward prime health and fulfillment.
My mission is to empower individuals on their journey to achieve optimum health and well-being through compassionate nursing care, evidence-based coaching, guidance, and support. I aim to inspire sustainable lifestyle changes by providing personalized coaching and holistic education that fosters self-discovery and promotes physical, mental, and emotional wellness. I also just completed a Functional Medicine for Nurses course this month and excited about incorporating the knowledge and skills gained into my coaching services.


There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
I think the three qualities and skills that were most impactful in my journey were (and still are) dedication, persistence, and networking. There are always going to be good days and bad days in life, it’s almost guaranteed, but with dedication to your goals and persistence in getting there you have a much greater chance at succeeding. I’ve definitely had days where I had lost motivation, but I knew I wouldn’t feel that way forever and tried to remind myself that some days may not be as productive as others but as long as I remained consistent, persistent and dedicated I would continue to reach my goals. Networking has also been very impactful and I’ve learned that it can literally be done anywhere. It’s all about connection with people in person, and while I definitely remember not wanting to go to any events alone, I’ve learned you usually end up meeting even more people that way.
For folks who are early in their journey I would recommend getting out there as much as possible whether it be volunteering, interning, shadowing someone doing what you are interested in to see if it truly is in alignment with your passions. Lived experiences are priceless. The more exposure you can get the better because what you learn will be invaluable in terms of deciding whether it really is something you want to pursue.


Tell us what your ideal client would be like?
My ideal client understands that nurse coaches don’t just coach nurses, we certainly can, but the truth is that anyone can benefit from nurse coaching.
My ideal client is someone that is open to the idea of making changes in their life to ultimately improve their overall health and well being.
My ideal client doesn’t necessarily have to be ready to make any immediate changes, although it is preferred if they are at least curious about the idea of how nurse coaching can assist in identifying the support and resources they may need for their life to improve.
My ideal client is in the contemplation or preparation stage of change, however I’m more than happy to work with someone in the precontemplation stage because they may become aware of current behaviors and benefits to making changes.
