We were lucky to catch up with Laura and Julean Waddell recently and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, so we’re so thrilled to have Laura and Julean with us today – welcome and maybe we can jump right into it with a question about one of your qualities that we most admire. How did you develop your work ethic? Where do you think you get it from?
Our work ethic has been influenced by a variety of factors. Growing up, we observed our parents’ dedication and commitment to their jobs, which instilled ia strong sense of responsibility and a hardworking attitude. Additionally, our educational experiences and exposure to mentors who emphasized the importance of diligence and perseverance have further shaped our work ethic. Overall, a combination of family values, role models, and personal experiences has contributed to our strong work ethic and drive to excel in our career.

At Muddle Fresh, my wife Laura and I have joined forces to create an unforgettable experience for our community and customers during some of life’s most significant moments. Our business was born out of a genuine desire to serve, and through our mobile bar service, we’ve elevated the cocktail experience by using only the freshest ingredients. From hand-squeezed lime and lemon juices to homemade simple syrups, every element is crafted with care to provide an exceptional taste.
What sets us apart is our commitment to quality and our dedication to making our clients’ events truly special. I, Julean, bring my expertise as a passionate bar enthusiast with a vibrant personality, while Laura’s visionary approach ensures that every detail contributes to a seamless and memorable occasion.
As our business has grown, so has our range of services. In addition to our mobile bar service, we now offer tablescaping, table and chair rentals, creating a convenient one-stop shop for our customers’ needs. We’re proud of how we’ve expanded to provide a holistic event solution.
Looking ahead, we’re excited about the future of Muddle Fresh. We’re not only focused on expanding our own business but also on supporting fellow entrepreneurs in their growth journeys. Our dream includes seeing our signature simple syrups and fresh ingredients on the shelves of grocery stores, making the Muddle Fresh experience accessible to an even wider audience.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Reflecting on our journey, three qualities that played a pivotal role were adaptability, continuous learning, and effective time management. As a small business owner, wearing various hats and excelling in marketing, networking, and strategic branding is crucial. I advise those starting out to focus on these areas by consistently educating themselves through resources, courses, and mentors. Embrace change, allocate time wisely, and establish Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) from the outset to streamline operations and ensure sustainable growth.
