We recently connected with Laura Baker and have shared our conversation below.
Laura , we’re thrilled to have you on our platform and we think there is so much folks can learn from you and your story. Something that matters deeply to us is living a life and leading a career filled with purpose and so let’s start by chatting about how you found your purpose.
After many years as a teacher, I transitioned into freelancing, combining my love for helping others with my passion for marketing and technology. During my teaching career, I discovered the joy of guiding and supporting others, which naturally led me to become a virtual assistant and social media manager. Now, I help businesses by managing tasks that free them to focus on what they love most. There’s nothing more rewarding to me than making a meaningful impact and helping others succeed!

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
For the past several years, I’ve had the privilege of supporting small business owners in the virtual space as a VA, Social Media Manager, and Web Designer. I’ve worked with numerous entrepreneurs to help streamline their operations, allowing them to focus on growth and success. My mission is simple: to help my clients reclaim their time so they can focus on what truly matters.
As a wife, mom, and former teacher, I understand the value of time—whether it’s time for business, family, or personal passions. That’s why I’m passionate about giving my clients the confidence that their business is in good hands. With a foundation of teamwork, quality, and positivity, we all win.
After 15 years of teaching elementary students, I transitioned into the virtual world when we started a family. Teaching wasn’t just a career; it was a journey that instilled invaluable lessons, built deep connections, and reinforced my passion for helping others.
Based in the beautiful PNW, I love spending time outdoors and enjoying a great cup of coffee. I’m excited to use my experience and enthusiasm to help fellow entrepreneurs thrive and succeed!

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Three key qualities that have shaped my journey are determination, open-mindedness, and the ability to adapt quickly to evolving online trends.
These traits didn’t come naturally to me. When I first considered changing careers, I felt overwhelmed, nervous, and full of doubts. But when I finally took the leap, I committed fully—determined to learn everything I could about freelancing, take all the necessary courses, and absorb as much knowledge as possible. Over time, I also learned the value of keeping an open mind with clients and staying adaptable in an ever-changing digital landscape.
My advice for those just starting out? Keep going. Keep learning. And most importantly, believe in yourself and your abilities.

How would you describe your ideal client?
My ideal client is a small business or non profit looking for support with graphic design, social media management, web design & virtual assistant tasks. They value creativity, organization, and strategic online presence, and they need someone who can help them streamline their operations while effectively communicating their message. They likely appreciate collaboration, purpose-driven work, and a positive, solutions-oriented approach.
