Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Laura Frazier. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Laura, you’ve got such an interesting story, but before we jump into that, let’s first talk about a topic near and dear to us – generosity. We think success, happiness and wellbeing depends on authentic generosity and empathy and so we’d love to hear about how you become such a generous person – where do you think your generosity comes from?
I dont even think of myself as generous, I just believe in community! I grew up pretty poor, and in and out of the system so having any little bit of help in my life always made a huge impact; and I want to pass along anything or any way I can help people i my community too.
Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
I love what I do as a hairdresser because I get to be creative and have fun everyday while also helping folks. One of my mentors always said “you never know someone’s whole story, this could be the best day of their week or month; so always put 110% in.” And he was right. I have had folks tell me after appointments that they’re diagnosed with somethings cary, or had a bad break up in progress, or a loved one passed and their hair day just helped keep them going or make them feel good again. Helping people in my chair and in my community is so important to me, so I opened a salon to be more apart of my community and find other stylists who care as much as I do!
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Looking back, 3 things that were most impactful in my journey are: having an open mind, coming from love always, and be ready for change, even if youre not ready. An open mind not only as an artist but as a stylist is so important because you meet and talk with so many people from so many walks of life you have to be open to these people and experiences. That brings me to my next point, always com from love, even if you have to have a hard conversation or som thing make sure your intention is love. Love for yourself, and the people youre interacting with because only you know whats best for you and some times people need help figuring out whats best for them too! And not only does my industry change constantly and without consent, but the world! And if you dont have that open mind then youre gonna have a stressful time.
Okay, so before we go we always love to ask if you are looking for folks to partner or collaborate with?
I am always trying to collaborate with locals! I love meeting and doing fun social media or in person events and specials that show case both my small biz and other small biz too! I love working with artists and other beauty providers but im open to anyone local trying to soon fun marketing things!
