We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Laura Gerenser a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Laura, thanks for sharing your insights with our community today. Part of your success, no doubt, is due to your work ethic and so we’d love if you could open up about where you got your work ethic from?
I grew up watching my parents always complete any task to its fullest. It did not matter what the task was or how menial, everything worth doing was worth doing well.
Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
I own Adventures in Bloom Local Goods & Workshops in Apex, North Carolina. We started in 2017 as a purely mobile Metal Stamping Workshop. We have since grown to a fully stocked gift shop and craft space.
I get excited teaching others this unique craft that many may not have even heard of before. Guests create a piece of jewelry or an accessory to take home while creating memories during the experience. While in store they also get to browse the many artisan goods we hand select from right here in Apex as well as across the country. It’s definitely fun always trying to find products that our customers may not have seen before. We pride ourselves on being a communal space for the creative adventurer. Wether it’s stopping in for a quick gift or spending the afternoon in one of our workshops, Adventures in Bloom is always a good time.
We have recently added Permanent Jewelry to our shop, giving you yet another reason to make sure you stop by soon!
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Three things that really helped me get to where I am today are always saying yes, staying true to myself and keeping a tight network of people that are way smarter than me.
Saying Yes!
This one does not mean always over-extending yourself, but more about always being open to new opportunities.
Staying True to Myself
This is harder said than done, but people can tell if you’re being fake. Best to just lean into the awesomeness of what makes you, you. Picking projects and goals that align with who you are make them easier to accomplish (and more fun along the way).
Smart People Meet Up
Surround yourself with people that are already where you want to be. Picking folks that work as hard as you keeps you motivated. It’s also nice to be able to bounce ideas off someone that has different insights.
My best advice I could give is just keep going. Take ALL the baby steps and don’t bite off more than you can chew too soon. Let your growth happen organically and you’ll be where you want to end up in no time!
Okay, so before we go we always love to ask if you are looking for folks to partner or collaborate with?
We are always looking for new artisans and crafters to host workshops in our shop, sell their goods with us or just get coffee with and talk shop.
Sharing all our collective creativity is exactly why Adventures in Bloom was born.
