Meet Laura Halcomb

We were lucky to catch up with Laura Halcomb recently and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Laura, appreciate you sitting with us today to share your wisdom with our readers. So, let’s start with resilience – where do you get your resilience from?

I find resilience within Myself, because of the unfortunate challenges
I have faced. I’m one of the most resilient Women you will ever meet. Not by My Life choices. But the choices that Life made for me. I’m a serial entrepreneur. Lost my husband and mom. 1 year apart. Same day. Survived cancer, and moved 4 states away all in 4 years. So to say I’m a little bit of a survivor as an understatement.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?

Non profits are my absolute favorite, and I’m extremely involved in the community. From women empowerment speaking, to podcasts.

Honestly if I had my dream job it would be to volunteer full time. Giving back gives me a joy deep within my soul.

It’s been rough for me as life has thrown me many curve balls. So I like to be an example to women that you CAN, even when you think you can’t.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?

Leadership skills.
You have to be a good leader. Not a dictator. I work alongside of my employees when needed. It earns a since of respect

Faith
I know life is always going to place me right where I need to be. I believe in the process and I’m not afraid to take risks

The power to connect
I’m brutally honest about both the pitts and peaks of business ownership, and my personal life. With that mindset ot allows me to gain connections for life.

Anyone going on the journey
My advice would be to prepare. Ownership is like a Rollercoaster ride. Lots of highs but the lows are gut wrenching. Listen, you don’t know everything. Learn, be a sponge and surround yourself with leaders. Always have room at the table for a newbie chasing their dream, remember you once started knowing noone. Grow your network. Feed those that feed you. Clap for others when it’s not your turn , because your turn is coming just keep the faith!

How would you spend the next decade if you somehow knew that it was your last?

I face the challenge everyday being a female CEO in a heavily male prominent industry.

Previous to being in moving I had a large construction company with my late husband.

However the challenge is gladly accepted daily and I’m grateful for the men who make it happen.
