Meet Laura McLean

We recently connected with Laura McLean and have shared our conversation below.

Laura , we’re thrilled to have you on our platform and we think there is so much folks can learn from you and your story. Something that matters deeply to us is living a life and leading a career filled with purpose and so let’s start by chatting about how you found your purpose.
In 2016 I started a boutique in my town. It was a brick and mortar.

I had very young children and was trying to run a business and be a good mom. It was hard.

I had so many questions related to starting and running a business. Questions about taxes, ecommerce, building a website, shipping, work/life balance, etc. The list goes on and on, and I didn’t have a place to turn for questions.

I knew there had to be more people out there in the same boat as me.

I thought it would be so great to have a community of like – minded women that could support and encourage each other, help each other answer these questions, celebrate each other’s win, and be a safe place to go to learn and grow together.

Small Business Moms has grown beyond my wildest dreams.

It was created out of a problem that I needed solved for myself.

Now we are an amazing/encouraging community for thousands of women.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
I’m Laura McLean, founder of Small Business Moms and She is Unstoppable! I’m a wife, boymom, small-town Missouri girl, and a multi-passionate entrepreneur.

I love hiking, reading, shopping-small, 90’s rap music, working-out, and discussing business ideas over coffee!

Nothing makes me happier than seeing other women do BIG things!

I created Small Business Moms out of my own struggles: When I started my first business I didn’t know where to turn for help. I had so many questions and wasn’t sure where to begin. I had young kids and was trying to balance my home and family life on top of starting a new business. I thought it would be great to have a community of other like-minded women where we could ask questions, get support, and cheer each other on.

I love that Small Business Moms has become a place where we, as a community, can help so many other moms grow their business, but social media is my jam. I love helping small business owners grow their businesses with the help of social media.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
1) Remembering to take care of yourself. You can’t take care of business, if you don’t take care of yourself. I found myself very overwhelmed and burned out early on. Taking time to prioritize my health and wellbeing and personal growth has been a game changer for me.

2) My Daily Habits – focus on small wins every day.

3) Mindset – How I speak and think about myself and my business. Changing my thoughts and my words.

Any advice for folks feeling overwhelmed?
For me it’s important to get outside and in nature when I get overwhelmed. I love hiking, but even just getting out for a walk. When I get outdoors for a walk or hike I am unplugged, getting fresh air and sunshine, and it’s my go to to feel better instantly.
