We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Lauren And Tais Twardzik And Cepeda a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Lauren and Tais , so excited to have you with us today, particularly to get your insight on a topic that comes up constantly in the community – overcoming creativity blocks. Any thoughts you can share with us?
When we made major changes to the channel a while back, we wanted to make sure that we grew as individuals and creators. A big creative block was trying to figure out how to make better content while also enjoying it. With our videos we try to implement new editing techniques. While filming we try to have fun and make each other laugh. This inspires us to make more videos and build a positive community.
Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
The two of us met our freshman year of high school in biology class. We had talked about liking paranormal shows and jokingly talked about being ghost hunters ourselves. Fast forward to senior year, we had officially started a YouTube channel and began ghost hunting. Our first video was posted on Jan. 9th, 2022 which was our investigation of Joliet Prison and Ashmore Estates. (It sucked, you can tell we were new.) We’ve now been to over 25 haunted locations and have learned a lot about the paranormal. Our major focus with our channel is to make content that WE find enjoyable while also making other people laugh. Its also just as important to us to make sure we share authentic evidence of the paranormal with our viewers. Something we find extremely cool about what we do is that we’re going to places that not too many people visit; abandoned hospitals, schools, prisons that have held infamous inmates, etc.. We are so grateful to be able to visit these types of locations while also making a lot of amazing friends along the way!
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Communication, openness, and a willingness to fail. Its important to be able to communicate with your team members and be honest with yourself. Being open to new life perspectives is also a big part of what we do. After doing that, things still might not work out the way you expect them to and you have to be okay with that. A piece of advice that we’d share with people on their journey is to stay determined because there’s going to be plenty of times when you want to give up, but eventually if you work hard enough on it, there will be a break through and it will all be worth it in the end.
What’s been one of your main areas of growth this year?
We would say our biggest area of improvement has been the amount of subscribers/supporters we were able to gain this past year. This is something that we never expected to happen, and we are so grateful that people have chosen to support us. Our channel was originally created as something for us to look back on and a place to put our paranormal evidence on. We never thought it would become something that people enjoy so much. We find so much joy in what we do and we’re eternally grateful for any support we get.
