Meet Lauren Cunningham

We were lucky to catch up with Lauren Cunningham recently and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Lauren, appreciate you sitting with us today to share your wisdom with our readers. So, let’s start with resilience – where do you get your resilience from?

When I started my first business, I got a lot of “no’s”. I sent out hundreds of cold emails each week & received hardly any replies. However, it just takes one “yes.” I think that time in my life was when I developed resiliency and grit. Often times, you learn a lot more from the “no’s” than you do from hearing “yes.”

This has carried over into my current business (social media marketing) and my podcast. I reach out to dozens of people each day, and I don’t always hear back from everyone. I’m not scared of hearing the word “no.” And, I know that it just takes one “yes” to change everything!

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?

I’ve always been fascinated by business. I graduated with a degree in accounting, but it didn’t take long for me to realize that I needed a place to channel my creativity and connect more deeply with people. That realization led me to launch my own social media marketing agency—where I now help fellow founders build their businesses online, craft intentional digital brands, and show up with clarity and confidence.

In June of 2022, I launched So Can I—a podcast and community rooted in the belief that stories have power. Each episode highlights a different female founder, sharing the real, unfiltered journey behind the business. My hope is that every listener walks away thinking, “If she can do it, so can I.”

I’m deeply passionate about connection, community, and championing other women in business. I believe encouragement is one of the most powerful tools we have—and that every woman deserves to feel seen, supported, and inspired as she builds her dream.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?

I think the most important skill is the art of the pivot. You have to be able to recognize when it’s time to switch things up!

You also have to be courageous. Putting yourself out there, spending money, showing up on social media — it’s all really hard! You have to have the courage to take the next step.

Another quality that I have found important is collaboration. Many business owners are looking to collaborate with other businesses. It’s such a great tool that can help you expand your business!

Awesome, really appreciate you opening up with us today and before we close maybe you can share a book recommendation with us. Has there been a book that’s been impactful in your growth and development?

I love “38 Letters from J.D Rockefeller to His Son.” It has been extremely impactful. I especially loved the part when he told his son that taking action is the most important thing. The world is full of passive people that allow life to pass them by. They are scared to make a decision. Don’t let that be you. Be an active agent in your own life!
