We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Lauren Maqueira a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Lauren, so many exciting things to discuss, we can’t wait. Thanks for joining us and we appreciate you sharing your wisdom with our readers. So, maybe we can start by discussing optimism and where your optimism comes from?
The power of story telling is what I believe is worth defending. Classic literature that is still talked about to this day, even though it was written hundreds of years ago, means that it still resonates with humanity. I stay optimistic in this journey because I believe that stories should never die and can heal people and I want to be a part of that in the world. Whether I’m in a project that resonates with people for many years to come, or just minutes after they watch that is my goal with acting. I wanna be a part of the magic that can positively impact people’s lives, including my own.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
Hello readers! It’s absolutely insane that after all these years, I’m still an actress. Hear me out, for many years I wanted to be a clinical psychologist, especially working with younger kids in upper elementary school. Even though psychology is still something that I would love to tap into in the future, I believe that acting is a more direct way to attack the issues. I wanted to confront for humanity through psychology. Many stories growing up affected the way I viewed my relationship to the world in a positive way I believe I can still do that as an actress, which is why I stay optimistic after all these years.
I got the incredible opportunity to play “Sienna” in a coming of age short called “A Forever Kind of Thing” coming out very soon! It was a great opportunity to work with the director Saylid Lopez in collaboration with VLOR Studios. Can’t wait for you all to see! In the works right now is a horror short that I am producing that taps into that psychological aspect and I can’t wait for you all to see! Keep an eye out on my Instagram at @laurenmaqueira for more info to come!

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Being in the moment is something that I definitely developed overtime and that was extremely helpful for me. You can learn as many acting tricks as you want, but when it comes time to perform, you can’t focus on too many technical things because it will pull you at the moment. So, focusing on reacting to the other person rather than trying to say my lines is what helped me and what I believe new actors should continue to hone in on.

Before we go, any advice you can share with people who are feeling overwhelmed?
Getting overwhelmed with the process is completely normal but even though it’s cliché, it’s true. Remind yourself of why you are in the journey in the first place ask yourself the question “Is what I’m doing right now get me closer to who I want to become?” At least for me that’s what centers me back and gives me a new sense of drive.
