Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Lauren Mutschler. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Lauren , thanks for sharing your insights with our community today. Part of your success, no doubt, is due to your work ethic and so we’d love if you could open up about where you got your work ethic from?
I’ve always really loved being a workaholic. I think it dates back to middle school and high school, I had a hard time fitting in with others and was a bit of a loner. In order to escape that sense of feeling left out, I poured all of my energy into getting good grades and became heavily addicted to completing homework and art projects. Homework was my social life in a sense; instead of socializing with my peers, I socialized with my textbooks.
That same energy has stuck with me throughout my whole life.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
I’m a special effects makeup artist and a tattoo artist as well. I taught myself special effects makeup at the end of 2022, and have been doing it ever since. I fell in love with the concept of turning myself into multiple different characters because it alleviates the pressure of living in reality. It’s a fun creative escape.
I recently became a tattoo artist as well. I’ve always had a love for drawing since I was a kid. You can find more info about my tattoo work at winona_ink 🙂

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
I would honestly say the three biggest qualities were #1- NEVER GIVE UP, no matter what people say. Never ever give up. I got a lot of negative comments at the beginning when I first started getting into sfx makeup, but no matter how many times people told me I was crazy, I still followed my heart and continued my passion.
#2. Consistently. If you want your dream to happen, fight for it. Chase it. And don’t stop running towards it until it happens for you. I think being consistently productive with your goals helps very much in the long run.
#3. Have FUN. nothing is more important than loving what you do. Have fun with it. Roll with it. Be YOU.

Okay, so before we go, is there anyone you’d like to shoutout for the role they’ve played in helping you develop the essential skills or overcome challenges along the way?
A handful of people have contributed to helping me overcome challenges. But someone who helped me get to where I am today is my close friend Brian. I tend to be a major workaholic, and sometimes the urge to create overtakes the urge to socialize, but he helps drag me out of the house at times when I’m too engrossed with work and has helped me learn that making memories with friends and family is just as important and working hard too.
I’m lucky to have a friend like him to teach me that life isn’t only about work, it’s also about the people you make memories with too.
It’s all about a balance, a very necessary mindset to have.
