Meet Lauren Oliver

We were lucky to catch up with Lauren Oliver recently and have shared our conversation below.

Lauren, so great to have you with us and we want to jump right into a really important question. In recent years, it’s become so clear that we’re living through a time where so many folks are lacking self-confidence and self-esteem. So, we’d love to hear about your journey and how you developed your self-confidence and self-esteem.
I developed my confidence and self esteem slowly over time. I really worked hard on eliminating the negativity in my life whether that be intrusive thoughts or just people in general! I made it a goal and mission to find things that I truly loved about myself and focused on those things. And my confidence was one of those fake it till you make it situations. I started out pretending to believe in myself until I truly believed in myself! And it worked! I also learned that every day is a new chance to wake up and be better than I was the day before and I refuse to allow any day to be taken for granted!

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
I have been barbering for 6 years. I found my passion in hair at an early age and decided late in life to take a chance on myself! I have built my brand on talent, education, skill, compassion, and communication! I am constantly looking for education opportunities and growing in my craft is extremely important to me! I am also getting into doing community outreach for underprivileged people! I am very excited to be able to help out in my community in however that looks. I want to continue to grow and be better for myself and my clients!

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
I believe communication was one of the hardest challenges that I faced! At the beginning of my journey I was very quiet and reserved and introverted. So really learning how to make a conversation from anything really helped my growth in my business and personal life. Knowledge in my craft was also another important part of my journey. I needed that hands on experience to help grow and create my art in my way! And being able to explain and have the knowledge to adjust and improve and change is so important in this industry.
Having a great sense of self is just as important as having great skills. Just knowing what you want and how you plan to achieve that is so special. And it takes time to get there it is so rewarding to achieve that once you do!

Best advice I can give to someone just starting out is to keep your head high and use every opportunity to learn and grow! Every mistake is an opportunity to improve! Never allow something small define you because you will get better and you will be successful!

Who is your ideal client or what sort of characteristics would make someone an ideal client for you?
An ideal client for me is someone who book’s appointments, and has a regular schedule. Even if it’s not prebooked just knowing when they are ready they will come back in! I consider my clients friends and some have grown to even being like family! So just that cool barber/client bond is awesome!
