Meet Lauren Webster

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Lauren Webster. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Lauren , thanks so much for taking the time to share your insights and lessons with us today. We’re particularly interested in hearing about how you became such a resilient person. Where do you get your resilience from?

I come from a family of self-made entrepreneurs, so I’d say that a lot of my resilience came from watching them. Growing up with a single mom, she never let failure be an option. I watched her create a million dollar business from the ground up, my mom never let anything keep her down and anything she touches turns to gold because of that. My dad was always self employed in the commercial fishing industry and dominated whichever avenue he pursued, at one point even starring in a reality show for the Discovery Channel called Cold River Cash. Learning from their experiences showed me that anything is possible as long as you work hard and never give up on yourself.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?

My entire life I have always gravitated towards art and creativity. I knew that I would not be happy sitting at a desk and that I wanted to live outside the box and also to work for myself. After high school I spent some time searching for the right way to go down that path, and several years of college and waiting tables later I decided to take a chance and apply for a scholarship to cosmetology school from the Beauty Changes Lives Foundation which I received in 2014. That ended up being one of the best decisions I have ever made and after completing cosmetology school I began my journey as an assistant at a high end salon in Portland, ME. It was there that my passion and love for color expanded and where I began to put all of my focus moving forward. As the years passed and I was building a clientele of my own, I started to create a following for those seeking out blonding and balayage which I now specialize in. In 2021 I went on to open my own studio and was able to grow my knowledge as a business owner and while I enjoyed it, over time I was feeling isolated constantly working by myself. This year I was presented an opportunity to reunite with several of my previous salon co-workers closer to home at Jade’s Salon Loft in Bath, ME and together our goal has been to bring luxury hair to this area. In the first year we have already received the award for Best Salon in Midcoast Maine and I look forward to seeing what the future holds for us.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

In building a business it’s important to know how to stand out and a huge part of that is how you treat the people that support your business. Everyone should feel important and if you have the quality of making people feel that way then you will be successful. It’s also crucial to know that there will be ups and downs in entrepreneurship and you must be perseverant. The people that are able to weather those storms and keep believing in themselves despite the discouraging days will ultimately rise to the top. Lastly, authenticity is key. Come as you are and the right people will find you. You will not be everything to everyone but you will be everything to someone.

How would you describe your ideal client?

My ideal client is someone who trusts my artistic vision but also someone who trusts that my vision is molded by how they want to see themselves and what makes them feel beautiful. Ultimately if I can be the catalyst in making that happen, along with creating meaningful connections along the way then I have accomplished what I have set out to do.
