Meet Lauren Wyman

We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Lauren Wyman. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Lauren below.

Lauren, looking forward to learning from your journey. You’ve got an amazing story and before we dive into that, let’s start with an important building block. Where do you get your work ethic from?
My work ethic comes from wanting to see change in a broken healthcare system and wanting to end suffering. I have personally had many health struggles that were attempted to be “managed” with medications by the healthcare system, however, I was never given hope in actually healing or understanding why my issues were occurring in the first place. I was simply provided with bandaid solutions. I began to understand and realize that my personal habits & daily practices were fully contributing to my health issues and it was something that I had complete control over. I also have worked in the hospital for the past 8+ years and see suffering on a daily basis. I also see many chronic diseases that could have been prevented with proper accountability/encouragement, diet, & lifestyle changes. Seeing how my body began to heal completely changed my perspective and put a fire under me to shed light on these issues. It is now my passion and life’s mission to support healing in others and change the way we look at our health completely. Most things are not just due to chance and genetics (5-10% of disease is actually caused by JUST genetics, the rest are due to epigenetics and how we turn on & off genes within our genome due to diet & lifestyle). My main goal is to ignite a fire within my clients to become their own healers & advocates and not solely rely on others to fix all of their problems. We feel absolutely helpless and lost when we lose control, but I help clients bring awareness to the things they have control over and assist them with facilitating new healthy habits, diets, and lifestyle changes, to truly begin to heal their bodies.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
I am a Doctor of Physical Therapy by degree but have gone on to achieve multiple certifications for continued education in Gastrointestinal Health, Hormone Health, Blood Chemistry, Pelvic Floor PT, and Nutrition for Chronic Pain. I remain a registered physical therapist, working in a hospital setting because I really enjoy the medical aspect of working with an interprofessional team. I also own a company called Wholeistic Physical Therapy P.C., where I focus on holistic wellness, pelvic floor physical therapy, and in general, helping clients heal their bodies. I take a holistic approach to the body, meaning, I take everything into consideration including emotional, mental, personal experiences, and physical health. I utilize diet and lifestyle along with customized supplement healing protocols, sound healing, aromatherapy, light therapy, plant medicine, and other modalities to truly facilitate healing in the body. My favorite part of what I do is to spend time with clients. When you sign on to become one of my clients you have unlimited access to me through a HIPPA safe portal. From there we can chat, problem-solve together, and truly begin to understand what is going on in the body together. I think a disservice to the healthcare industry is having patients rely on doctors or professionals to “fix” them. In my opinion, based on experience and the success I have seen with my clients, true healing comes from within the individual. There needs to be a commitment to self, a sense of accountability, and a drive to change what has caused issues in the first place. Oftentimes we just “manage” symptoms with medications and never get to the root cause of why something is happening. Of course, I am not a medical doctor and cannot treat diseases in the body, but I can help clients support the natural healing properties of the body and help bring balance to areas that need it. I offer a 16-week Deep Dive Healing package where I will meet virtually with clients for 1 Initial Consultation session that is 90 minutes, and then Routine Check-Ins every 2 weeks for 30-45 minutes over the course of 16 weeks. I then offer month-to-month packages if continued healing is necessary and clients would like my continued support moving forward. My goal is to really ignite an individual’s inner healer so that when things arise in their health, they can begin to connect the dots and problem-solve. They will also leave having some skills to help improve their own health using diet & lifestyle changes.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
1/2. I truly believe patience & listening are skills that are necessary for most aspects of life, but especially for any caregiver or practitioner role. There is a beautiful balance between telling someone what you think they should do and listening to what they are telling you. Oftentimes they can tell you exactly what’s wrong or what’s going on, they just need the proper prompts and to be heard/validated, and we need patience in order to get to those revelations/answers. Patience is also needed from a listening aspect, giving people time to get their thoughts, emotions & concerns out, but also needed overtime to truly see behavior change & healing in an individual. Healing does not happen overnight and often takes months to move the dial. Many individuals have been living a certain lifestyle, eating & thinking a certain way, so there needs to be moments of unlearning & relearning new behaviors in order to reach their goals.

3. Working through imposter syndrome, talking to others who have walked in your shoes and understand that you are not alone and that the majority of people starting something for the first time feel the same way. If we don’t talk about it, you feel alone and isolated and can feel like a failure. This goes hand in hand with working through a perfection mindset as well, and accepting “failure” but also seeing it as a learning lesson. It took a while for me to understand that my “ego” (me wanting to heal everyone and I would get frustrated when I didn’t fix everything) was getting in the way. I needed to step back and listen to my clients more as well as let go of the perfection mindset. I realized that I can not want something more than the client does and by doing this, it was like a weight was lifted from me to not feel like a failure when something didn’t go how I imagined.

One of our goals is to help like-minded folks with similar goals connect and so before we go we want to ask if you are looking to partner or collab with others – and if so, what would make the ideal collaborator or partner?
I am always looking for people to collaborate with! I love talking and collaborating with other practitioners and finding ways we can support one another in this holistic wellness space. I recently collaborated with a hypnotherapist and it has been such a great experience learning about her services. I have been referring many clients over to her and vice versa. It’s awesome to see where I can help people and where others can fill in the gaps as well since we cannot all be experts at everything. I also love learning about new techniques and theories. Since working in the hospital, you begin to truly understand that a one-size-fits-all approach does not work for everyone, and one thing that worked for one individual may be the completely wrong approach for someone else. I would love to collaborate with any wellness practitioner, functional medicine doctor or practitioner, bodyworker, women’s health expert, other therapists and wellness experts.
