Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Lauri Getlan-Watson. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Lauri , we’re thrilled to have you on our platform and we think there is so much folks can learn from you and your story. Something that matters deeply to us is living a life and leading a career filled with purpose and so let’s start by chatting about how you found your purpose.
I am 57 years old and a single mom to twins who are 12.5 years old and I have been in the field of education and art for 33 years. Last year, I was sitting in my living room, looking at my apartment and just thought that there was more meant for me and my life than the same routine day in and day out. I started to reflect on all of the bumps in the road I had encountered and what got me through to the other side and I realized it was my passion for my art. My abstract art is what helped me when I could not find words to express myself, it provided me an outlet for anger and it also was a conduit for joy. I knew that if my art could help me through the worse of times, I could help others and teach and show how abstract art can help with self-development, conquering limiting beliefs, healing, stress and anxiety and finding joy.
Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
As a Holistic Abstract Artist, I specialize in the power of abstract art and Neurographica Art in order to unveil the unspoken truths nestled within our souls. My methodology for abstract art and Neurographica Art act as a conduit to access the subtle nuances of our spiritual selves as well as provide a method for healing from trauma and relieve limiting beliefs. I help women create with purpose and intention while providing a safe space needed for expression and diving into the work needed for healing, self-development or tapping into one’s intuition. I love watching women transform and then discover the words they were missing once they have finished their artwork. The artwork is what speaks and brings forth the voice they thought they lost or could not find. The power is in the brush, pencil and hands that create.
I currently have doors open to my monthly membership, The Sacred Canvas, where each month we dive deep into a specific area such as imposter syndrome, stress, hills and valleys of life, and so much more with a live session creating together and a second live Q&A along with many free downloads and gifts each month. I also offer online workshops for men and women, individualized sessions for other coaches who want to implement art into their practice and I travel for retreats in order to teach and enrich a retreat experience. I offer 1:1 abstract art coaching for men and women, and I also offer sessions for children who suffer with self-esteem, anger and or sadness as well as those who are in the later parts of their lives as there can be stress and anxiety near the end of our time on earth.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Having 33 years of teaching experience, I knew I knew how to express myself to others and to allow for a safe space for others to explore the darker parts of themselves. I also attended MICA (Maryland Institute of Art) and with years of artistic exploration I knew I could tap into that in order to make it accessible to others.
The qualities that were most impactful in my journey were knowing that there was more meant for me in this lifetime, shedding the limiting belief of imposter syndrome and living my authentic self with no excuses.
For those who are early in their journey, the best way to develop or improve on these qualities is to trust. Trust the universe and trust yourself. Invest in yourself. Invest in yourself monetarily by using a coach such as myself and invest in yourself by providing time and grace for yourself. Take the time to be still with yourself daily even if for only five minutes.
Okay, so before we go we always love to ask if you are looking for folks to partner or collaborate with?
I love to work with others and I truly believe that what I offer is one of a kind and that my methods can bring another whole element and level to others’ programs and retreats. If other coaches, leaders or businesses are interested in having me provide a workshop tailored to their client’s/employees needs whether it be during a retreat, live event or team building, I can be reached via email,
