Meet Laurnie Wilson

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Laurnie Wilson. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Laurnie , thank you so much for joining us. You are such a positive person and it’s something we really admire and so we wanted to start by asking you where you think your optimism comes from?

I know that there are countless reasons to not be optimistic right now. So for me, choosing to be optimistic isn’t about ignoring the challenges or adversity that exist, but being intentional about how I navigate whatever life has thrown my way. Because the truth is, life is going to life! It actually doesn’t matter if you are optimistic or not. But what remaining optimistic does help with is allowing you to feel grounded and confident, regardless of what is going on around you. All of this to say, my optimism comes from my belief that I deserve to feel good, no matter what.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?

As a hypnotherapist, I help my clients rewire their subconscious so that they can finally live the lives they want. This can look like releasing old childhood wounds, getting over a heartbreak, building confidence to pivot in their career–and so much more. As a yoga teacher, I help facilitate transformation on the physical and somatic level, so that my clients feel safe in their bodies and their minds.

I feel that this work is essential to a full and satisfying life, because once you understand what is going on inside of you, you become truly limitless.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

Three of the qualities that have been most impactful in my journey have been confidence, curiosity and compassion. When you’re confident, you can put aside any self-doubt or imposter syndrome and go after what you want. When you’re curious, you stay humble and give yourself the chance to learn even more. And when you have compassion, you can more easily take care of yourself, and extend grace to others as needed.

If you’re just starting out in your journey, I’d do a little audit and ask yourself how much you feel you possess these qualities. Then ask yourself why? Why do you have that level of confidence or curiosity or compassion? From there, you can get a better understanding of where you’re starting, and what’s been getting in the way of you embodying these qualities even more.

Any advice for folks feeling overwhelmed?

I’ve been feeling overwhelmed a lot lately! So this is what I’ve been doing to help settle everything down. First, I take out a sheet of paper and write down every single thing that’s been floating around in my head. Get it all down. You don’t have to organize it first. You can write “call my sister” right next to “eat more vegetables” because this first step is all about just getting the mind mess out in front of you.

Once it’s all out there, then start to organize things into whatever categories work for you. Maybe you like to organize by the area of life that particular thing falls into. Maybe you like to organize by urgency. You might change your organization structure a few times–that’s okay! The important thing in this step is to clarify your priorities so that you can start breaking them down into actions that feel less overwhelming and more manageable.

There’s something really powerful about being able to visualize what it is that’s on your plate. And the moment you take the chaos in your head and see it in front of you, you give yourself permission to make choices, instead of just stewing in the anticipation of it all!

This entire process is very customizable, so I hope this rough outline will give you a good starting framework–from there, you can make it work for you!
