Meet Lauryn Evarts Bosstick

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Lauryn Evarts Bosstick. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Lauryn, thank you so much for joining us today. Let’s jump right into something we’re really interested in hearing about from you – being the only one in the room. So many of us find ourselves as the only woman in the room, the only immigrant or the only artist in the room, etc. Can you talk to us about how you have learned to be effective and successful in situations where you are the only one in the room like you?
When I walk into a boardroom, with a bunch of strong men, I don’t give it energy either way. I walk in with the vibe like we’re all equals- I’ll even sit at the head of the table.

Ultimately it is not my business how other people feel about me because I can’t control it, I can only control how I act.

I walk in with confidence and the goal to get the job done to the best of my abilities.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
I am the CEO and Founder of The Skinny Confidential, a blog, a podcast, and skincare line. The blog helped create an amazing community that is really what shaped the product line & I’m so grateful to the community’s support every single day. Along with my husband Michael, I host The Skinny Confidential HIM & HER SHOW, a podcast with over 140+ unique downloads, featuring world class leaders, entrepreneurs, doctors, celebrities, athletes, best selling authors, experts, thought leaders & more. I’ve also authored 2 books, and our skincare brand is growing and evolving too. It all started with the award winning HOT MESS ICE ROLLER & first ever razor & shave cream designed specifically for women’s faces. Since then we’ve also launched a PINK BALLS FACE MASSAGER, ICE QUEEN FACE OIL, the HOT MINUTE PLANNER, and are on course for lots of exciting things this year.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
The incredible Skinny Confidential community. Their feedback and support has been invaluable and there wouldn’t be a product line without them. It’s like they built the brand alongside me.

My intuition and connection with the audience play a huge part, but at the same time I’m incredibly strategic with setting goals and the systems to reach those goals.

TSC team and I are in touch every single day, planning launches, goals, blogs & podcasts. But sometimes I set aside time to just THINK. I come up with ideas when I’m thinking or when habit-stacking. (For me, that’s meditation with toe stretchers on while doing red light therapy with a crystal mask on lol),

I’ve really tapped into creation mode lately by setting boundaries. That means writing, creating product ideas and design, podcasting, brainstorming anything, interviews, & everything. The creative process is where I thrive. So I’ve been trying to say YES to more creation and NO to unnecessary Zooms, meetings, emails, to-do lists and asks in general.

My advice for people early in their journey is to just launch. Launch fast, adjust later. Nothing will ever be perfect and you can adjust to consumer feedback from the start, whether you’re creating content, product or a service. That being said, it’s important to be purposeful and set a plan, systems & goals.

As we end our chat, is there a book you can leave people with that’s been meaningful to you and your development?
An amazing book is The Slight Edge: It says ‘always tapping into what made you popular in the first place, but in an evolved way.’

For The Skinny Confidential, that’s the blog. It’s always been the mothership and what captured the community: thorough, specific content.

As the brand evolves, we’re still creating content but we’re also doing it with a podcast & product line as well as the blog. I always want to be doing what people first fell in love with, but fluffed up for 2023 & current times.

Also, The Daily Stoic by Ryan Holiday is totally relative to my first answer above. It teaches you that you can only control you, not others or your surroundings. In my opinion this is such a good book to read for everyone but especially if you’re a woman in business.

Reading is KEY- I am a real book nerd. I set an hour aside to read daily.
