Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Lauryn Hobbins. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Lauryn, so good to have you with us today. We’ve always been impressed with folks who have a very clear sense of purpose and so maybe we can jump right in and talk about how you found your purpose?
I think I found my purpose when I realized it wasn’t just one specific thing or action. I always thought my purpose was music or sharing art to connect people, but recently I’ve discovered it goes deeper than that. Although music is a tool I use, I’ve found that any way I can connect with others, share stories, and be a good listener fulfills my purpose. The rewarding feeling I get when people resonate with my music is the same feeling I get when I talk to a client about life or personal struggles, or when I hear a stranger’s story and learn from it. My purpose is simply to experience people, learn from them, and do my best to love them.
Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
My focus in 2024 is growing my music career. I moved to Charlotte in January of this year to be in a city that has a lot of musical opportunities. Since moving Ive been able to dive into live performances and networking like I hadn’t had a chance to in the past. Im currently working on my debut album that will be completed in the fall of this year. That has had a large portion of my energy and focus this year. I can’t wait to share it and be able to give background on some music that was written years ago. Something I look forward to in the future is meeting more musicians that I can play live shows with. I look forward to meeting those new friends.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Three qualities that have helped me in my music journey have been my ability to create art from difficult past experiences, my ability to resonate with people on an intimate level, and my understanding of music and songwriting.
The advice I would give to someone starting out is hard times are going to come and instead of resisting those hard times learn to create something positive out of them. Ive found this to help me process hard times, but also how to better resonate and be affective with other people. Another piece of advice I would give is to take your free time seriously and stay focused on growing your skills.
One of our goals is to help like-minded folks with similar goals connect and so before we go we want to ask if you are looking to partner or collab with others – and if so, what would make the ideal collaborator or partner?
Im always looking for collaborative opportunities. I would love to collaborate with a videographer soon. Im looking for someone to help me with an upcoming music video for my new single. Im also looking for people to collaborate with on future songs. Preferably someone who can sing music in a slow/sad rap genre.
