We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Lauryn Pyatt a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Lauryn, thank you for being such a positive, uplifting person. We’ve noticed that so many of the successful folks we’ve had the good fortune of connecting with have high levels of optimism and so we’d love to hear about your optimism and where you think it comes from.
Optimistic is a quality that people have used to describe me throughout my whole life, even when I was a child. In my own experience, I notice that optimism sprouts from passion and joy. One of my biggest passions in life are people, and one of the things that brings me the most joy is connecting with people. Being an extrovert, it fulfills my heart and having positive interactions with those around me is uplifiting. My optimism stems from my joy and passion, but ulitmately, it’s from God. I am forever thankful that I have such an appreciation for this life that I have been given because I can remember when I had no desire for it. Although I was always known as being optimistic, I severely struggled with my mental health during my early years of high school. I was dying in the darkness, but Jesus called me to live in His light. I didn’t know Christ until I was 18, but knowing His love has transformed me. He had plans for me way before I even acknowledged Him. The love I have for life comes from God, and I am grateful for this optimsim, passion and joy. These are all blessings from above.
Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
I am a photographer located in the St. Louis area. Initially, photography started out as a hobby, but I quickly realized that I loved it and wanted to do more with it. As I pursued this passion, I officially launched my photography business, Lauryn Lens, in 2024. Throughout this journey, I have learned a lot, and I have had some memorable experiences. I have taken graduation pictures, senior photos, proposals, a baptism, and more. My favorite part about regular photoshoots is being able to encourage the person I’m taking photos of. Giving kind compliments helps spread that positivity that the world needs more of, but the aim is also to help people feel more comfortable and confident in themselves. Being a photographer is pretty awesome, but being a hype woman is pretty awesome too.
Alright so to wrap up, who deserves credit for helping you overcome challenges or build some of the essential skills you’ve needed?
My mom is a strong and wise woman who I look up to. She is my role model, and she has taught me critical life lessons that have contributed to informing the way that I think, behave and interact with the world. Although my mom is not a photographer, the type of mother she has been to me has contributed to my success. I observe her compassionate heart, her ability to be resourceful for anyone she meets, and how hard-working she is. My mom has shown me what unconditional love looks like and how to care for people well. One of my mom’s gifts in life is being a caregiver and with that, she is skilled with knowing how to advocate. Growing up, having her as my mom has made me empathetic and shaped my personality to have a genuine care and interest in people. The way my mom loved me helped me form a love for people, and that is a major component in my success. The sole purpose of my photography isn’t about becoming even more successful or growing my name, but what I see as the most important goal is helping people feel loved.
