We recently connected with LaVon Dixon and have shared our conversation below.
LaVon, looking forward to learning from your journey. You’ve got an amazing story and before we dive into that, let’s start with an important building block. Where do you get your work ethic from?
I derive my work ethic from my family, who have always set powerful examples of hard work. Both my paternal and maternal grandparents, along with my parents, have shown me that no matter the obstacles or challenges we face, with God’s help, we can persevere.
I vividly remember times when I needed to make ends meet, and I embraced every opportunity that came my way. Whether it was serving as an administrator, playing the drums, or working as a photographer and videographer, I learned to never stop working. I believe in setting goals and putting in the effort to achieve them, but I also understand that maintaining those goals requires just as much dedication. My family’s legacy of hard work inspires me to keep pushing forward, regardless of the challenges that arise.
Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Looking back on my journey, I believe the three most impactful qualities are patience, creativity, and planning.
Patience has been essential, especially when navigating the challenges of building a brand and business. Progress often takes time, and it’s crucial to stay committed to your vision, even when immediate results aren’t visible. My advice to those early in their journey is to embrace patience as a strength. Trust the process, and remember that every step, even the small ones, contributes to your overall growth.
Creativity is another cornerstone of my work. It allows us to approach problems from different angles and develop innovative solutions that resonate with clients. For those starting out, I encourage you to cultivate your creativity by seeking inspiration from various sources like music, art, nature, or even conversations with diverse individuals. Experimenting with new ideas and not being afraid to think outside the box can lead to breakthroughs that set you apart.
Finally, planning is crucial for turning vision into reality. Having a strategic plan to be used as a guide for your goals is necessary. For those early in their journey, I recommend investing time in setting clear, actionable objectives and regularly reviewing your progress. Effective planning can help you anticipate challenges and pivot when necessary.
If I could add a fourth it would truly be faith. I believe in God and know that He didn’t gift me with these abilities for nothing. I trust God throughout the entire process, believing that all things work together for the good of those who love Him (Romans 8:28). This faith provides the resilience needed to overcome obstacles and encourages you to stay hopeful and motivated, even during tough times.
By focusing on patience, creativity, planning, and faith you can build a strong foundation for your journey. Stay committed to your vision, embrace innovative thinking, create a structured approach to achieving your goals, and maintain faith in the process.
What do you do when you feel overwhelmed? Any advice or strategies?
When I feel overwhelmed, I focus on the mantra “relax, relate, release.” It’s essential to take a step back and give myself permission to unwind. One of my favorite ways to do this is by treating myself to something I love—like buying a new pair of sneakers. As a huge sneakerhead, there’s something incredibly satisfying about adding to my collection.
I also find that self-care plays a crucial role in managing stress. I often schedule a facial and a massage to help rejuvenate both my body and mind. These moments of pampering allow me to recharge and clear my head, making it easier to tackle whatever challenges lie ahead.
Staying active is important as well. For me, whether it’s playing basketball or pickleball. These activities provide a great outlet for stress relief. Going out to eat is another way I enjoy unwinding, especially when I can share a meal with family and friends. Spending time with my two godsons is particularly special to me; they always bring joy and laughter into my life.
If I miss an opportunity to do any of the previous things I said during the week, I can always count on Sundays to be a day of relief for me. Church is where I go to receive a great word and play the drums. That’s my safe place.
For anyone feeling overwhelmed, my advice is to find activities that bring you joy and help you unwind. Whether it’s engaging in a hobby, spending time with loved ones, or simply taking a moment for yourself, it’s important to prioritize self-care. Remember, it’s okay to take a break and do something that makes you feel good!
